TWENTY SIX
JAMES ARRIVED AT BREAKFAST the next morning much later than usual. He looked exhausted, dark circles under his eyes, and his hair sticking up in different directions. By the time he approached the Gryffindor table, he only had around ten minutes before they had to head to arithmancy, their first class of the day.James groaned in pain, clutching his forehead, as he sat down next to her and Roxy. Annalise was already putting some eggs on his plate for him, as he rubbed his eyes.
"Bad hangover?" She asked, handing him his plate of breakfast.
"The worst." James replied, grabbing the plate from her. He immediately dug in, eating as fast as he could.
"Figures." Annalise chuckled at the state of him. James looked miserable. "You got pretty drunk last night."
"It was supposed to be you who got drunk, not me!" He whined. "That was the whole purpose of cheering you up."
"Well drunk you definitely cheered me up. So, thank you for that." She grinned, as memories of James from last night popped into her head.
"Did you both go to the kitchens last night?" Alex asked, clearly overhearing their conversation. They both nodded. Realization slowly crept onto Alex's face. "That explains why James looks like he got hit by a bus."
"Hey!" James scowled, desperately reaching up, and running his hand through his hair, in attempt to fix the mess on top of his head. Annalise and Alex laughed him, as James' hair only got worse.
"Kitchens?" Talia asked, her face twisted in confusion.
"I forgot they've never been to the Hogwarts kitchens!" Alex exclaimed, as Roxy and Talia waited for them to explain.
"There's a way to enter the Hogwarts kitchens. It's through the great hall, and another door, and then down a staircase. James took me there last night." She explained to her friends.
"It's where all the house elves prepare food for our meals." Asher added, joining the conversation. "If you ask them nicely they'll make whatever you want. Me, Alex, and James go there every once in a while in the middle of the night."
"Alex always ends up having way too much firewhisky." James snorted, and Alex shrugged, accepting it.
"I can't believe you guys never told us about the kitchens!" Roxy frowned.
"That's exactly what I said last night!" Annalise exclaimed, agreeing with her.
"Is that even allowed?" Talia asked the boys.
Alex shrugged. "Don't know. Don't care."
"It's not." Asher responded, giving her an actual answer. "I don't think any of the students are supposed to know how to get in."
