Chapter 37 - The Worst Day Ever
▪️Q U I N T I N▪️
The past few days had been nothing short of amazing!
Professing my love for Vincent was the best thing that could ever have happened to me. Whenever I was with him, I felt invincible; our relationship made me so happy. I often found myself staring at him, wondering how this man had become so special to me within these last two years.
Unfortunately, not even his love could help the sinking feeling that was currently devouring the centre of my chest.
Today was the worst day of my life.
Jade was in trouble and I was not there to help her. Just the thought had bile rising in the back of my throat and I had to take deep breaths to try and calm myself.
She was supposed to be going with Blaire to visit Cristiano who was visiting his cousin. They had planned on seeing him today and Jade had begged Dominic to allow her to drive. I do not know what she told him exactly that convinced him that she would be okay to drive herself and Blaire to the boardwalk.
Either way, by the end of it, Jade had gotten her way and even though I knew Jee-min was just as sceptical as I was, he held his tongue. Knowing the Korean man as well as I did, it was obvious that he would be extra vigilant while he drove behind her with Nigel and the other bodyguards.
To be honest, I thought that her sudden request was odd and I was surprised that Dominic had allowed it.
Something just did not feel right about the entire situation for me and the moment Jade had ditched Jee-min and the others on the highway it just confirmed my suspicion that she had been up to something.
At first, I thought she was just being a bit of a brat, wanting to give Jee-min and Nigel some trouble. But when the signal for the tracker of her car disappeared, I knew then and there that something was not right. Jade knew the importance of the tracker and I could not understand why she would even think to tamper with it.
Of course, no one was supposed to be able to interfere with the device. But leave it up to Jade to figure out how to disable it.
Even so, as brilliant as she was, I knew that the lack of signal would not last long, maybe an hour at best. Though the time span did not seem to be much, everyone knew just how much could go wrong in sixty minutes.
We immediately got into our cars and drove around the city, calling in favours to see if anyone had seen Jade's purple Porsche anywhere. Simultaneously, we tried calling Cristiano's phone but he was not answering and so we were not able to put a track on his location.
Thankfully, about forty-five minutes since Jade had gone missing, she called Dominic from Cristiano's phone, giving the Calvetti mafia boss her location and a rundown of the situation.
It was the worst scenario possible!
Jade was trapped in a diner with Miguel and his men, seriously out-gunned and out-numbered.
Nevertheless, if I knew anything about my best friend, I could count on her not to go down without putting up a fight. Seeing as she had Blaire and Cristiano with her, my heart raced at how tricky it would be to provide safety for all of them.
I just prayed and hoped that Jade could hold Miguel and his men off long enough until we could provide back-up.
Jee-min and Nigel, along with a group of men, were already en-route. They were the closest to the scene and I kept silently hoping that they got to Jade in time.
