"Chris you need to get up."
"Chris... Come on man, it's been two days."
"You need to eat at least. I made french toast..."
I feel Scott sit on my bed.
"Look man I don't know how your feeling, I couldn't imagine, but you need to eat. Or else I'll have to take you to the hospital for malnutrition."
I groan.
"Come on buddy. At least have some orange juice or something."
He gets up and opens the curtains.
"No," I groan.
"You need to get up Chris you can't be holed up in here. Plus you're starting to stink."
"Shut up."
"See there we go."
I pull the sheets off but I just lay there. I have no energy. I have no desire to get out of bed. But I also don't want to get sick and have to go to the hospital. I can't.
So I throw my legs over the side and take a deep breath.
I walk to the kitchen and get myself a cup of orange juice.
Scott comes in a few moments later.
"Here, eat," he pushes a plate of french toast. It looks really good, but I also don't feel like I should be eating.
I take the plate anyways and have a little bite. I groan. It's so good.
"Thank you," I let out.
I somehow manage to finish the plate, and I sit back to look around the house. It's a complete mess. Through my haziness I probably didn't realize the mess I made.
I pick up all the shoes, the clothes, the things laying around. I probably spent the next few hours scrubbing every surface in the house, even the ones that looked clean.
"Chris, okay. You need to relax. You can't go from not doing anything for two days to cleaning your house obsessively. You need to relax."
I let out a tired sigh and scratch the back of my neck.
"You know what you're right. I'm gonna take a shower and head over to mom's. She mentioned she needed her porch fixed and I never got around to hiring someone."
Scott looks at me mouth open like a fish, "That's not what I meant..."
I ignore him and take a quick shower and change again.
I quickly drive over to my mom's house and knock on the door.
She swings the door open and stares at me in shock.
"Chris? Honey what are you doing here? I thought you'd be at home resting."
"Nah I've slept enough," I give her a kiss on the forehead and move past her, "I came to fix your porch."
"Oh honey you don't have to-"
I keep walking towards the patio out back. It looks alright for the most part. Some pieces of wood need to be replaced and it needs a quick paint. I take a picture of the porch and I order what I need online.
I spend the next hour tearing off the broken pieces while I wait for the supplies to arrive. About an hour later the things arrive so I set up in the yard.
I cut the wood in the sections that need to be replaced. I get a nail gun and set them down. It took me probably two hours to replace the wood, but it looked pretty good so far.
