Dipper's p.o.v.
(y/n) and I grab our bags while Mabel sets up the camera and I write on the cardboard when my sister whispers "We're on." "Oh. Ahem, hello and welcome to Dipper and (y/n)'s guide to the unexplained," Mabel turns on her ufo keychain, shoving it in front of the camera. "Thank you. Today we investigate Gravity Falls anomaly number 132: The Hide-Behind."
I pull out the journal and flip to the page as I explain while taking the camera and pointing it at the page. "Local lumberjacks tell of a mysterious creature always just out of sight. But these photos suggest it might actually be real," (y/n) shows the image of the footprints that matched the drawings of the page in the journal. Either way, we intended to find out. Mabel suddenly jumps up behind me shrieking about being the hide-behind causing me to drop the camera and (y/n) to pull out a net and throw it at Mabel. We both give her a look when we realized what happened.
"The hide-behind? Oh, he's real alright. REAL AS MY BEARD! He was behind me once and made this sound," Manly Dan explains to us before making a quick ticking sound. "Mighty spooky," The tree in the background that his sons were cutting starts to come down and they shout "Dad! It's comin' down!" "DADDY'S DOING A MOVIE! He's doing a movie now..." The tree crushes a log cabin.
Next, we went to Lazy Susan. "Can I get a re-fill, ma'am? Re-fill?" A patron asks while Lazy Susan answers our questions, overfilling a cup with coffee. "Oh, the hide-behind is definitely real. Might even be behind me right now. Let me see," She starts spinning in a circle trying to find the hide-behind.
We had to go back to the shack to grab a few more things so we decided to interview Grunkle Stan as well. "Don't believe every legend you hear kids. The people in this town are literally the dumbest people in the world. Literally. The hide-behind's just a rumor. You want a mystery? How about the mystery of- What the?!" Grunkle Stan was cut off by a fast-paced ticking noise when we catch a shadow whizzing past us, knocking over the trash cans. "That's it!" (y/n) shouts and we start chasing after the shadow into the woods after slightly looking back when Grunkle Stan shouts:
"Hey, we're doing an interview here! Kids!" "Dipper! (y/n)!" We keep going. "Come on, where is he? Where is he?" I mutter as we continue to search the woods, eventually ending up at a certain dead tree. "Alright, after hours of searching we've narrowed it down to this tree. We know what you're wondering: How do you catch a creature who's always right behind you?" (y/n) says when I answer her question.
"How about...A mirror suit?" I ask, setting the camera down and walking in front of it, wearing a bunch of mirrors when I was surprised by my sister when she poked me with a stick. I fall shouting "I'm down! Dipper down!" Taking off the suit I take the camera and make my way to the tree whispering "This is it, get ready to finally be seen hide-behind in three...two...One...Aha!"
We see an owl shaking a maraca with its beak. "What?" It shakes the maraca and the girls squeal over it. "Wow cool! Maraca owl!" "He's so cute!" With a sigh, I put the camera down (y/n) stating "Well based on the lack of evidence, we have to conclude anomaly number 132: The hide-behind is just a legend," She goes back to playing with Mabel and the owl and I start to head home, checking behind me every so often after hearing a strange noise.
