------------------------------------------------------

Deena was the type of person to not really care what others thought of her, she had that sort of care-free attitude that many people admired, but hated at the same time. She wasn't the most popular, but then again, it wasn't like she was a complete loner and didn't have any friends. She had a small friend-group that consisted of two other people apart from her: Kate Schmidt and Simon Kalivoda.

Deena felt as if Kate and Simon were the only type of people to understand her and care about her for how she really was and even though they always bickered, although they always teased her for her crush on a girl in their year, Samantha Fraser, and even when Deena wanted to be alone but they wouldn't let her, she still cared about them and although it was hard for her, she still managed.

Deena was walking down the hall on the way to her locker as she was wearing a white t-shirt, a flannel and a green jacket with blue jeans and black boots. Her hair was down and slightly messy as she didn't have much time to get ready.

"Hey! Lady-killer." Kate shouted after Deena as she had came out the bathroom that Deena had passed a few seconds ago; she stopped turning to her best friend.

"Hey, Kate." Deena replied tiredly as her voice was still raspy from waking up.

"Hey, you all okay?" Kate asks as she could see the exhaustion. Before Deena could answer, they heard someone running towards them, they turned to see Simon excitedly rushing towards the girls as he almost fell but managed to gain his balance again earning some attention and glares from passing students.

"Guys! Guess what? Guess. What?!" Simon cheered happily. He punched Deena in the arm lightly three times, twice with his left and once with his right before turning back to the two girls in front of him and glancing between the two excitedly with widened eyes.

"What?" Deena and Kate asked in sync looking at the sweaty blonde haired boy stood in front of the two girls, Simon placed his index finger out telling the two girls to wait as he caught his breath wiping his sweaty forehead.

"I got--" Simon took a second to breath as he tapped his foot repeatedly and wiggled his eyebrows slightly glancing at the two girls, "I-I got em-employee... of the month! 4th month in a row, baby!!" Simon heaved out as Deena and Kate's expression grew in surprise as he had two jobs and didn't think he'd last that long.

"Oh, damn! Well done, Si." Deena cheered on giving him a small smile, Simon grinned happily placing his hands on his hips as he swayed.

"Oh, by the way! We got invited to a party, we're going." Simon told the two before he rushed off before the two girls could protest and say how they didn't want to go. Kate groaned

"I guess it could be fun." Kate sighed out as she turned to Deena who had already landed eyes on the cheerleader, Samantha Fraser. They had talked a few times; not much there, there too it. Whenever Deena tried, it wouldn't really go to plan that much as her friends would drag her away or something would happen where she'd have to leave. "And your daydreaming and your crush... perfect." Kate complained as she hit Deena in the back of the head the speed-walked away rushing off as Deena quickly snapped out of her trance but already saw Kate bolting down the hall snickering to herself.

"I--" Deena paused letting out a frustrated grunt, "I wasn't daydreaming!" Deena shouted after Kate as she rushed after her.

*Time skip to the party*

It was time for the party and Deena really wasn't looking forward to it at all, she had allowed her little brother to stay home alone as he could handle himself pretty well, he knew what to do, who to call, what he can cook and what he can't, the usual shit.

So, Deena made her way to the party on the way picking up Simon and Kate who were bickering about who got to drink and who didn't as they decided that Deena would be the one not drinking and that Simon and Kate could get as wasted as they liked.

Once they arrived and Deena had parked, both Kate and Simon practically leaped out of the car and into the house where the party was, Deena sighed getting out and locked her car as she casually made her way inside taking in her surroundings. She wasn't the biggest party fan and decided quickly that she'd need to go outside if she wanted to not be constantly touched by someone, so, making her way to the back, she heads outside and immediately sees Sam by herself who looked miserable. Deena went to turn around until she heard Sam say her name.

"Deena Johnson?" Sam question in slight surprise, Deena forced her eyes shut and sighed heavily, slowly turning around. She opened her eyes and waved nervously.

"H-Hey... Sam." Deena greeted awkwardly, "What're you doing out here? By yourself?" Deena questioned confused.

"Too many people." Sam coolly answered, Deena nodded her head as she muttered out a 'right' while placing her hands in her back pockets. "What about you?" Sam asked her.

"U-uhm... not really a big fan of parties if I'm honest." Deena explained to her making her way toward Sam and sitting herself down next to her, her heartbeat racing and mind filling with questions.

"How come you came then?" Sam asked her letting out a small laugh, Deena lightly laughed with her.

"I don't--" Deena paused as she pulled out a lighter and flicked it open then closed and repeated that movement as she tried to think of an excuse, "I don't know, I-I guess Simon and Kate really wanted to come and both get drunk, so, I'm their ride." Deena explained to Sam who just nodded her head and hummed in response, silence filling the air as this was the most they had ever said to one-another.

"I get that..." Sam muttered quietly as she looked down, Deena looked and turned to her in surprise,

"You do?" Deena questions,

"I do." Sam answered as she nodded her head, the two building more and more conversation.

*4 Hours Later*

Simon and Kate were on the hunt for Deena as it felt like they had looked everywhere for her, it wasn't until they looked outside the kitchen window where they saw Sam and Deena lying in the middle of the grass and Sam pointing at a star looking at Deena while explaining the story behind it, and as she was explaining the story thinking Deena was listening, she was actually only staring at her realising that they were slowly becoming friends and maybe... just maybe... things would work out and be ok after all.
