Melanie finally got home. It had been a month since she left Hawaii and Namjoon. They talked a few times over the phone, still it wasn't the same. She missed him like crazy. It was so sad without him. She couldn't dwell too much on her feelings, she had things to do. She had sold her car, her jewelry and kept only the important things. She didn't need stuff, she needed to survive. It would have been easier to just ask Taehyung or Namjoon for help, but she wanted to make it on her own. She didn't want to depend on another man again. Those days were long gone. She was the boss of her own life.
For the past month she applied for a job at every business company that was hiring. Of course she avoided Jin's and Namjoon's company. She didn't want to work for them. Melanie knew they would hire her just because it was her who was looking for a job. Since no one called her back yet, she took a waitressing job, she needed money and a job. Her apartment, though it was far from being luxurious, it was comfortable, cheap compared to other places, but still expensive for her pocket.
Waitressing was a very difficult job. Always on your feet, dealing with all sorts of entitled customers. Running from one place to another. She hadn't eaten in more than six hours and she was famished, she didn't had time to take a break. The only good thing that happened was that it was a week day, and the business closed earlier than expected. Which she was grateful for, her feet was killing her.
Before leaving work, she sent Taehyung a text, telling him that her shift was over, she ranted a bit about how work was harder than she thought. It wasn't a surprise to find Taehyung outside her door with a bag full of food. The smell made her mouth watering.
"Thank god." She beamed as she made room for him to enter.
"You get snappy when you're hungry. So I came to the rescue." He dangled the bag in front of her.
"I thought you'd be asleep by now." Melanie admitted. It was late, eleven PM.
Taehyung scoffed and made himself at home in her small apartment, which seemed emptier than usual. "You sold your tv?"
She shrugged. "I don't need it. It's not like I can stay and watch it. I don't have time."
She took a bite of food that her friend already placed on the plates. Taehyung shook his head. It was frustrating to see her struggle and not be able to help her because she was so damn stubborn. It wasn't such a big deal, it wasn't a bad thing to accept some help from time to time. One should not expect to solve everything by oneself. He didn't even bother saying it to her, she wouldn't listen to him either way.
"We need to go out." Taehyung suddenly spoke.
Melanie grinned. One day of fun wouldn't hurt. "I'm actually free tomorrow."
"Perfect." He smiled and patted her hand. "Your bestie wants to go to the amusement park that just opened up."
"You're gonna make me go on that death trap, aren't you?" She asked in a dry voice. She wasn't really a fan of it.
He winked. "Yepppp..."
She wanted to say something else, but her phone suddenly rang. It was her mother. She looked at Taehyung then at her phone. She didn't know what to do. Should she answer? Was it safe? Would Yoongi find out?
Taehyung saw how she hesitated and looked at him for confirmation. "Answer it. It may be urgent."
Melanie nodded with her head and answered the phone. "Yes mom." Her voice was low and hesitant. If Yoongi found out that she had talked to her parents, she'd be in a real trouble, all of them.
"You need to come home right away." Her mother commanded and ended the call.
She looked at her best friend, her heart shattered in million pieces. "Something is wrong."
