Melanie asked Jin's secretary where she can find Taehyung. She had never been to his office as they would always meet at a café near his office, or park, or their own homes. Anywhere really, just not there. Jin's secretary explained where and how to get to the fifth floor and swapped her own key card in the elevator to get there.
Each floor had it's own key card. Without a proper one, the elevator either wouldn't stop, or wouldn't even start. When she got off to the fifth floor she was speechless. She expected something similar to Jin's floor, but what she found was totally unexpected. The floor was eerily quiet, except for the sounds of the keyboards being pressed. Some of the employees had their headphones in, some not, but all of them were focused on their computer screens. They didn't even glanced towards her, or raised their heads.
She walked forward hoping that somehow she'd find Taehyung's office without having to bother someone. Contrary to Jin's office, on Tae's door was only written Kim Taehyung. The door was opened, and when she stepped inside, Melanie heard his sigh. She knocked on his door.
Taehyung jumped startled at the sudden noise. He was used to the silence his floor offered, even basked at the feeling. When he saw her, a smile spread across his features, jumped from his seat and hugged his dear friend. Even though they had talked a few days ago, he missed her. He was just so stuck in his own work, he hadn't noticed the time fly by. For the past couple of days, he almost moved in his office.
Every time he wanted to leave, a new crisis popped up and he had to stay behind to fix it, while his team went home for the day. He didn't complain, it was his company too, but sometimes he grew tired of it. The responsibility he had on his shoulders was nothing compared to the one that Jin had. He often wondered how in the hell Jin managed to keep everything in place so neatly, while he wanted to throw his computers through the window.
"I've missed you brat." Taehyung almost sang.
Melanie laughed at his exuberance. "I got the job. I'm starting in two days. It's good that you missed me, you'll see more of me now."
"Hell yeah." He jumped and hit the air with his punch. He was beyond happy. He knew Jin would hire her, she had all the degrees necessary, she was smart, she was pretty, and above all, Taehyung trusted her with all his heart. He grabbed her hand. "Come. Let's have a coffee."
Melanie laughed as she allowed herself to be dragged by him all the way to the kitchen. A couple of people were there and politely greeted them. Taehyung started the espresso machine and waited until two cups were done.
Melanie was taken aback on how well the kitchen was stocked They had everything, from espresso machine to microwaves, fridge and all the amenities required. Except for stoves, thought that made her laugh even more. Imagine going to work and cook your meal instead of working.
"What's with the laugh?" Taehyung asked amused. Her laugh was so powerful, he almost laughed too. Still, he had an image to maintain. He was one of the bosses too, it wouldn't be appropriate for his team to see him so comfortable and relaxed.
"I imagined someone coming to work and starting to cook." She wiped her tears from her face.
"Ewwww... That would make my entire floor smell like food." He shook his head. It was funny though. Still, image to maintain he reminded himself.
"God. This was a good one."
Taehyung looked at her and smiled. For the first time in a while, she was actually enjoying herself. No crippling self doubt, no second thoughts, just pure freedom. He guessed that's what happens when you find a job that doesn't suck the life out of you, or when you simply enjoy the little things like imagining someone cooking in the office kitchen.
