Living with Namjoon, at first was pretty awkward, then it became quite normal. They got into a comfortable routine. They would wake up, drink their coffee together, he would kiss Melanie goodbye when he'd go to work. When Melanie would come from work, she'd prepare dinner, talk about their day or cuddle together while watching a movie, then they would go on their own rooms. They decided that for the time being, they would sleep separate until they would get to know each other better, or until she could be mentally prepared to live with him as a true couple.
She had to admit, Taehyung's idea to compromise wasn't bad. She liked Namjoon's company, she liked how nice he treated her. Still, she was on her own self discovery journey. Which lead her to Jin's company. The company building was big compared to her father's. It was eight stories high and it looked like a tower made of blue glass. Cautiously, she took small steps as she entered the building.
A security guard approached her. "Welcome miss, how can I help you?"
"Hello." She replied. She wiped her sweaty palms to her black pencil skirt. "I'm here to see Mr. Kim Seokjin."
The man nodded with his head. "Please follow me." Melanie followed him to a desk. "Marjorie, please sign her in. She's here to see Mr. Kim."
"Hello. Welcome to the Kim's. Please sign here." She showed her a notebook where Melanie signed her name. Marjorie opened a drawer and gave her a tag card. "You scan this card to the elevator and go to the eight floor."
"Thank you." Melanie did as she was instructed.
As soon as she stepped on the eight floor, she was overwhelmed. There were more employees than she could have imagined, some of them moving from one cubicle to another. She slowly stepped forward, her heart was beating fast in her chest, her palms were sweaty. Melanie had no idea why she was so overwhelmed. It wasn't like it was her first interview, yet she was a bit scared.
She walked until she faced an office door that had written in bold gold letter Kim Seokjin, CEO. She felt proud reading his name, seeing how far he reached. Taehyung was somewhere in the building too, working as the head of the IT department. She purposely hid the interview from him. If she'd told him about it, he would make sure she'd get it. Melanie didn't want to use her friendship with him for something so simple as finding a job. She never used him, or their relationship for any personal gain.
Jin's secretary announced her presence and she was ushered inside with a smile. CEO, Kim Seokjin was a different meal that the Jin she grew to somewhat know. When his eyes landed on her figure, he smiled and rose to his feet. His aura was strong, making his body more impressive than he already was.
She marveled on how beautiful his office was. The floor was covered in marble, the walls were painted a soft beige, a couch on the right, and a small bookcase on the left. What stood out the most, was the impressive wall of glass behind his desk. She could bet he had the most beautiful sight in the entire building.
"Welcome." Jin greeted her, a warm smile on his face. He gesture for her to sit opposite of him. "Please take a seat."
Melanie nodded with her head. "Thank you." She had to remind herself that the man in front of her was a boss not her best friend's brother. She knew that much.
He looked over some papers and smirked. "You have a very impressive resume. But..." He linked his hands together and leaned on the desk. "The position I interview is for an assistant. My secretary has to give birth soon, which is why I need one in the first place, until she comes back. Base on your studies and your former position in your father's company, you deserve better."
Her prospect of finding something she studied for, was not very big. Due to the blacklisting her sister did, she doubted she'd ever find work in any company for that matter. Plus, she didn't have much experience in working in an office either, but she was a fast learner. All she needed was a chance to prove it.
"It's ok. I can start as an assistant and work my way up."
Jin smiled, pleased by her answer. He liked the fact that she wouldn't allow a thing like being blacklisted to deter her from moving forward, or advance in her career. "Good." He replied. He could have told her he had more people to interview, but he dismissed that thought. He was comfortable with her, she had a good resume, he really didn't need to look further. "You can start in two days and you'll have a period of probation of three months. Does that work for you?"
Melanie frowned. "Why did you hire me?" She couldn't help herself but ask.
Jin frowned. "I've hired you because you have the credentials and I feel comfortable around you. I didn't hire you because you are my brother's best friend. The business my parents left in my charge, I take it seriously and I want all the best around me." He planed to hire her either way, no matter the resume or the experience she had.
"Thank you." Melanie patted his hand and got up. "See you in two days then."
Jin nodded and watched her leave. It wasn't entirely true. He also hired her because it was easier to keep track on her, Yoongi and her sister. Something really did not add up with those three, but he trusted her enough to allow her to be close to him and his friends, not to mention his brother who considered her as his soulmate, though it was hard for Jin to understand that concept. How can a man and a woman be that close of friends and not try to be together?
