Aurora POV
We followed Brenda as she ran through a door. Newt gripped my hand as he ran, even with his limp he was still quite fast. I ran faster, trying to keep up with them all, until we ran through the door and my hand felt empty. I looked down to see my hand in a loose fist and looked up to find out there wasn't anyone around me.I was back in the corridor filled with doors to my past.
I walked over to another door further down and yanked it open. I came across the same group of people that finished the maze surrounding a small, plump body. Chuck. The young boy we couldn't save. I couldn't save. He was struggling to talk to Thomas and yet again I found myself in my own shoes, staring down at the two friends, one trying to keep the other alive while the younger one reassured him it was ok. I suddenly felt my knees give way as I sobbed and strong arms grabbed my waist, pulling me into his chest. Newt hid his face in the crook of my neck as he cried and I peeled one of his hands off my waist to hold onto it with my smaller one. I rested my head back on Newt's shoulder as I tried to stop crying, trying to be strong for everyone else. I didn't like crying in front of people, made me feel weak, but my younger friend was dying and I knew I couldn't do anything to stop it.
"No, no, no," Thomas chanted. "Wake up Chuck! Come on! You have to get up! WAKE UP!"
Thomas's cries made me burst into tears as the familiar guards came in to take us away. The first guard grabbed Newt, pulling him away from me, making me suddenly feel alone and officially weak. My knees gave way as I wasn't being held by Newt anymore, and I came crashing to the floor, sobbing. A scream tore from my throat as I watched a tear slide down Chuck's lifeless eyes and an arm grabbed my own, pulling me upwards.
"Come on sweetheart," one of the male guards said to me gently. "We gotta go."
I reluctantly nodded, trying to grasp the fact that my friend, the boy I saw as a younger brother, was gone.
"Thomas," I mumbled, pulling out of the guards grip just as he started walking away. "Come on."
Thomas shook his head. "I can't leave him!"
"Please Thomas, please come with us," I begged, grabbing his arm and trying to move him.
"I promised," he sobbed. "I promised he'd see his parents."
"I know," I whispered, finally pulling him to stand. "I know."
Guards grabbed us both and dragged us out. I noticed Thomas held Chuck's carving tight in his hand left hand and I grabbed his arm, silently telling him to run with me to make it easier for the guards. He got the message and well fell out of the guards grip and ran to the helicopter to meet everyone. I climbed in quickly after Thomas and Newt immediately dragged me towards him, obviously not trusting anyone else inside the helicopter. Thomas sat beside me and I held his hand to reassure him we were all still here for him and we weren't going anywhere.
"You ok?" I asked Newt who still looked pretty shaken up from losing Chuck.
He shook his head, obviously unable to form words. I grabbed his hand as well and gave both boys a gentle squeeze earning one back from Thomas who sent me a tiny and forced smile. I looked back at Newt. He just seemed to be so busy all the time and I didn't realise how close he and Chuck could've been.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, glancing at the floor.
Newt wrapped his arms around me and pulled me away from Thomas, hiding his face in my neck again.
"It's not your fault," he muttered into my neck.
Minho noticed and mouthed 'get together already' to which I lightly shook my head. He rolled his eyes and mouthed 'your weird friendship is really getting on my nerves' I smiled slightly and gave him a wink. Even with Chuck dying just seconds ago, he still seemed to give sassy remarks.
