A week later and I had only seen Loki once, and that was to show him the library. Loki ate in his room and barely came out. When he did come out, it was because someone had to brief him on something.

I was currently working on my ice blasters. My entire workbench was covered in ice because I just couldn't seem to keep the ice magic contained.

There was a knock on my door, and I turned around to see Loki. I hid my surprise and gestured for him to come in.

"What's up?" I asked.

"Stark told me to come see you about the limiters," he said. "Apparently I am to be restricted further."

I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Why?" I asked.

Loki scowled at me.

"They did not tell me why," he said.

I sighed for what seemed like the millionth time this week.

"Just give me a second," I muttered, picking up my phone.

The phone rang for three rings before it was picked up.

"Did Loki do something?" my dad asked.

"No, Tony," I said. "But I want to know why his power has to be limited further."

"Fury's orders," my dad said. "Fury saw the video from the training rooms."

I scoffed and began gathering tools.

"His powers are already limited a lot," I said. "Can't Fury just chill out a bit?"

"Apparently not," my dad said. "I gotta go, but let me know if anything happens, alright?"

"Will do," I said. "Bye, love you."

"Love you too, kiddo."

The call ended with a beep, and I went to put my phone on the workbench before I remembered it was covered in ice. I waved my hand and the ice disappeared.

"Come here," I said to Loki. "You might want to sit down while I work."

I pulled out an extra chair and put my tools on the bench. Loki sat down in the chair, and I began working on the limiters. I held his hand in mine to steady it as I worked.

"Just for the record, I think that your powers have already been limited enough," I said.

Loki stayed silent, and I continued my work.

"Are you and Stark... close?" Loki asked.

I bit my lip and started working on the other limiter.

"Why do you ask?" I questioned.

"I do not believe he says, 'I love you' to just anyone," Loki said.

I cleared my throat.

"Well, he's my father figure," I said. "So... yeah. We're close."

Loki didn't press any further, and I mentally exhaled in relief. Lying to the god of lies didn't seem like such a good idea. Loki looked around my lab while I worked. His attention caught on my ice blasters.

"What are those?" he asked.

I refrained from quoting the vine and looked at my ice blasters.

"Well, I'm trying to make a weapon for the Avengers that don't have powers," I said. "I'm trying to put my ice in it so that they can shoot ice beams like me."

Loki looked at them closely while I fixed the finishing touched on the limiters.

"All done," I said.

Loki took his hand from mine and stood up.

"Can – can I ask you a question?" I asked. "About your powers?"

Loki froze before nodding slowly.

"It's about your telepathy. I've spoken to Wanda about hers, and I was wondering if yours is different. What's it like? Do you sense people brainwaves and interpret them, or is it simpler, like mind reading? And do you actually read people's minds? Are their thoughts like pages in a book? Or do you hear their thoughts? Or is it more of a visual-"

"How," Loki interrupted, "do you expect me to answer if you continue asking questions?"

I chuckled.

"Sorry," I said, walking around my lab to put my tools away. "It's just so interesting. Not very many people on 'Midgard' can read minds."

I waited for Loki to answer.

"It varies on the person," Loki said. "I assume you know that some people think with a voice, while others use visuals?"

I nodded.

"Well, it depends on the person, then. But even if someone thinks with an inner voice, I can still access their memories, and see those memories. And I can see if they are imagining things," Loki explained.

I smiled and quickly wrote it down.

"What are you doing?" Loki asked.

"A good scientist writes down everything," I said. "You never know, I might need it for future reference. Thanks for answering."

Loki was quiet for a moment before he replied.

"You are welcome, Lady Y/n."

I smiled softly, before deciding to keep him talking.

"Are you reading anything of interest?" I asked.

Loki narrowed his eyes at me.

"I thought Midgardian literature was supposed to be good," Loki said. "What I have read so far is most definitely not."

I cocked my head.

"You most certainly have not read f/n, then," I said. "What on earth were you reading?"

"The first book I found was titled Fifty Shades of Grey-"

He stopped talking when I burst out laughing.

"Is there something funny about that?" he sneered.

"No," I said, trying to keep a straight face. "But Fifty Shades of Grey is horrible. Absolutely atrocious. I don't know why there's even a copy in the tower. We should burn it. You can read my copy of f/n, and then you can tell me if Midgardian literature is bad or not."

"You do not have to lend me your copy," Loki said.

"Don't worry about it," I said, opening drawers and cupboards in my lab. "It's in here somewhere. I'll find it."

I finally found it in a drawer and handed it to him. He took it from me tentatively.

"Please be careful with it," I said. "That was the first book I got after... after I..."

I couldn't bring myself to finish. Loki looked at me curiously and I cleared my throat.

"Um, anyways, it's a really good book," I said. "Let me know if you like it."

Loki looked at me like he wanted to say something, but then decided better of it. He clutched the book tightly and nodded at me.

"Thank you, Lady Y/n," he said.

He then left my lab, and I let out a long breath.

He hadn't been rude or icy towards me, so that was an improvement. Hopefully it meant that he was going to be nicer from now on. Hopefully.
