After typing up my report and sending it to Fury, Friday announced that dinner was ready. I made my way through the tower and to the main floor, where it was completely silent. I was confused for a moment before I realised that Loki was there, and that no one wanted to talk to him.
He was a bit rude in my opinion, but I guessed it was because he had walls up. You don't just automatically trust someone, especially if that someone hated you. And there were a lot of those someones here.
"Dinner's ready!" Wanda called from the kitchen.
She used her magic to float the plates of Paprikash onto the table. We all sat down, with Thor and Steve sitting next to Loki. I supposed that it was a good idea to have Steve sit next to Loki, seeing as Steve didn't actively want to kill him, and Steve would stand a chance if Loki decided to attack whoever was to his left. If he decided to attack whoever sat across from him, it would most likely end up with a whole lot of ice.
I watched Loki as he ate, and the rest of the team did too. There was barely any conversation, and I felt bad for Loki. He probably didn't want to be here as much as the rest of the Avengers did.
I wanted to talk to him, to ease the tension, but what could I say? Something to get to know him...
"What do you like to do in your spare time, Loki?" I asked politely.
Everything went silent. The clinking and clanking of cutlery stopped, and Clint choked on his water. Loki looked at me, and I wanted to shrink away under his intense gaze.
"I like to read," he said shortly, before returning back to his meal.
"Did Thor show you the library?" I asked.
Thor's wince and Loki's widening eyes told me that the answer was no.
"It's the best place in the tower," I said. "I could show it to you sometime, if you'd like."
Loki nodded and continued eating. I looked over to see Wanda staring at me.
What? I thought at her.
She rolled her eyes at me.
Why are you trying so hard if he won't try at all? she asked.
Because he has defences, I thought. He's not going to drop them instantly. We have to be gentle, and kind.
Wanda pondered it for a moment before nodding softly at me.
The rest of the dinner was uncomfortable, but uneventful. As soon as it was done, Loki stood up and left, leaving the rest of us to let out a breath.
"That was awkward," Sam said once the elevator left with Loki in it.
"You'd expect it to be, wouldn't you?" I asked. "I mean, none of you really like him that much. He knows that, so he's not going to open up or be pleasant to you if you don't try to make him feel accepted."
Everyone considered my words for a while. I helped Wanda clean up, and I then went up to my room. I put on the tv show that I was currently binging, and about ten minutes into the episode, there was a knock at my door.
I walked over and opened it to reveal my dad.
"What's up, Dad?" I asked.
My dad didn't say anything and began to pace around my room. I waited for him to sort out his thoughts, and he stopped before me.
"I want you to stay away from Loki."
I waited for him to explain, but he didn't speak.
"Why?" I asked.
My dad blinked at me in shock.
"Y/n, do you even know who he is? What he did?"
"Under mind control," I reminded him angrily. "Dad, it wasn't his fault."
"He pulled a knife on you today!"
"Yeah, because I was a threat! Don't look at me like that, you know that Bucky or Nat would do the same," I said.
My dad exhaled sharply through his nose.
"I just – I just want to keep you safe," he said. "And Loki... he is most definitely not safe."
I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
"Like he could take me," I said.
My dad gave me a look that said he-most-definitely-could-take-you. I placed my hand on my heart in mock pain.
"I can't believe you think that I would lose," I said, pointing at the door. "Get out. This is outrageous."
My dad rolled his eyes and hugged me close.
"I'll be fine, Dad," I said softly. "I mean it."
My dad hugged me tighter, and I stayed there with him.
