LOKI
Red magic swirled through the air as the young witch cast spells, changing things from one form to another. Loki watched, making sure that nothing went wrong. About half a year ago, Loki had gone to Asgard and retrieved books and texts on the Scarlet Witch. They had helped Wanda immensely, and she had quickly become the most powerful member of the team.
However, no matter how hard he tried to ignore and forget it, learning magic with Wanda brought him back to another time, a time with another person.
Y/n.
It was nearing three years since they'd lost her. Since Loki had lost her, since she'd sacrificed herself to save Midgard. He'd thought about her almost every day since then, since the moment her life force had faded away.
The witch stopped her spell-casting as she noticed Loki's gaze. He blinked out of it and tried his best to smile. The young woman saw right through him, though, and walked over to pat his arm gently.
"It does get better, in a sense," she said quietly. "You learn to deal with it. To let it affect you less."
Loki knew her words to be wise. She had struggled with the death of her brother, their bond much stronger than any sibling bond he'd ever encountered. They had been twins, together since birth.
Loki nodded slowly. While her words were wise, he was unsure if they were true. While yes, her death didn't hurt as much as it used to, it still hurt a lot. He doubted he would ever be able to forget this pain, or learn to deal with it.
"She was my – she was my best friend," Wanda whispered. "It still hurts me, but not as much as it did. I just think about the good things."
Loki nodded, but didn't say anything. The good things hurt him as well. It all hurt.
Wanda looked at him for a moment longer, and Loki quickly checked his mental shield to see if they were in place. Wanda sighed and checked her watch.
"C'mon, it's six thirty," she said.
Wanda left the training rooms, Loki trailing her silently. Loki disliked the weekly movie night – it didn't feel right without her. He couldn't stop thinking about her, couldn't stop seeing the way Wanda leaned her head against Vision's shoulder and knowing that Y/n should be doing the same with him. It all hurt too much.
But he endured it anyway. Y/n would want him to be happy, he knew – so if he couldn't be happy, he'd pretend. If only for her.
