"It won't work."

"It will, Y/n, trust me."

"Dad! You'll blow something up!"

"Won't be a first."

I huffed at my dad and watched closely as he started dismantling one of my ice blasters. I had my magic ready to defend him for when it exploded.

Just as I said it would, it blew up.

My dad threw his hands up to shield himself from the ice and I created a magical shield. The shield glowed blue and took the impact of the ice. I looked at my dad smugly.

"Told you so," I said, removing the shield.

The shield took quite a bit of concentration and power to hold, but that was only because I was a beginner. Loki said that the more I used my magic, the more it would grow.

"You basically pop the magic bubble when you remove this part," I told my dad, showing him what he'd done wrong. "I made it that way so that if Hydra ever tried to copy my work, they'd be covered in ice.

My dad chuckled and rubbed my shoulder.

"That's my girl," he said. "But you could have told me that before I tried to take it apart."

I shrugged and smiled at him. I liked having these moments with my dad. Sometimes it felt like I could pretend that nothing had happened, and that I'd grown up with him my entire life. But good things never last.

"Tony. Y/n."

I turned to the door to see Pepper.

"What's up Pep?" I asked.

Pepper narrowed her eyes at the both of us.

"Do you know what time it is?" she asked.

"Well, a few minutes ago, it was only seven, so it should be..." I glanced at the clock and blinked in surprise. "Not three in the morning, surely."

Pepper blinked in annoyance at the both of us. I bit my lip to hide my laugh as my dad shook his head.

"That clock must be wrong," my dad said. "I mean, what did we even do with that time?"

"Um... you helped me finish those flying boots, we came up with some new web designs for Peter, we made blueprints for a spaceship, and you tried to break my ice blasters," I said, counting them off my fingers.

My dad scoffed.

"I did not try to break them," my dad said. "I just wanted to see what would happen if-"

"If you took it apart after I told you not to," I said.

My dad grinned at me, and I rolled my eyes, a matching grin on my face.

"Bed. Both of you," Pepper said. "Y/n, you have magic lessons tomorrow and I know that you know you need sleep for that. Tony.... You've been up since four yesterday morning. It's time for sleep."

"Okay, well, Y/n can go to sleep-"

"What?! That's bullshit!" I interrupted.

"Hey! I'm the parent here! It's your bedtime!"

"I'll go to bed if you go to bed!"

My dad narrowed his eyes at me and sighed.

"Fine, fine," he muttered. "I don't need to be awake anyway."

I smiled at him and hugged him goodnight. He kissed the top of my head, and I gave Pepper a hug too.
