"What do you mean you're not coming home for summer?"

I decided to take Kian's advice and call my mom, after half an hour of congratulating her on the birth it turns out the baby is actually my fathers, she swears her life on it. Apparently, she finished the affair just before she got pregnant, "I'm going traveling." I sat at my desk with my phone on speaker while looking through hotels on my laptop in front of me.

"You are going traveling? But not coming home?" My mom's voice is calmer than usual almost like she's trying to understand. "I was thinking Paris." I look through the list of hotels in the city center, "Paris? Are you going alone? With the boys?" I want to laugh, "no I've asked if Ele will come with me."

"Oh."

"Oh?" I stop typing to wait for her response, "your girlfriend?" I hear her sigh on the other end not knowing if she didn't do that purposely, "so it's pretty serious?"

"I would guess so considering we love each other." Ele left this morning she had some errands to run, we haven't spoken about last night but we'll be fine. "Shit, love." This time I do laugh because this is the first time I've heard my mom cursing, "I'm happy for you."

"Is dad?" I hear myself ask, I care about both of them and love them. What they've done for me and how much they gave up to allow me to get where I am today means everything to me. Believe it or not, despite how much my dad pisses me off I care about his opinion and I want his blessing and support in this relationship— my first relationship. "Your father is happy for you. I know he doesn't always show it but he loves you and we'll support you until the end."

"I'm sorry I've been a dick." I confess, "ever since I found out about the affairs, it upset me because I know you both don't love each other anyone hence the cheating and finding companionship through other people." My mom sighs again, "I do love your father and only your father." I really hope that's the case. It's shit when you watch your parents fall out of love— take Kian's parents, for example, they're still together but there's no love there.

"Is there any way I can convince you to come back home?" No. "You could bring Ele."

"Thank you for the offer but I think we'll stick to Paris."

I know at some point I will properly introduce Ele to my family but for now, I like that it's just us. Getting my parents involved especially my dad will fuck everything up and I'm not willing to let that happen.

"I'll talk to you soon?"

"Love you."

"Love you too." Once I hang up the call I release a giant sigh, I love my mom but sometimes she frustrates me.

Ele.

Without a second thought, I search for Ele's name and start calling her phone. Two rings later and she answers, "hey."
