You can learn a lot from the tales of old men, sitting back listening to Cody's uncle discuss business with his friends was interesting, to say the least; to the untrained ear their conversation was extremely boring but I learned from my dad and uncle, they were speaking in codes and behind their boring conversation was something.... interesting. They were discussing the current state of the city, more specifically Epic and Renee... these old men were worried, they knew what was coming and it scared them but as they started discussing their contingency plans I was pulled away by Cody's Aunt Layla, who needed help moving some boxes to the basement, then she needed someone to help Bam with the liquor. I had a feeling she had questions she was just thinking of how to phrase them, we've spoken before but never in such a casual setting like this one. As Bam got out of the car, I noticed all the signs of what they had been doing... Kendu was a nympho and I honestly wasn't surprised that he managed to get Bam, but something else was bothering me Bam darted straight towards Murda, Frenchie, Jizzle, and the kid that showed up with them who were standing on the side of the house smoking. He whispered something to Murda and they walked away, got in his car, and sped off.... what was that about? Before I could think too deep on it, Layla (she refused to let me call her Mrs. Mayfield) finally decided on what she wanted to say.
"Legend, I was thinking about this trip you're taking with Cody... I think y'all should...." She started to say.
"Hey, Layla girl... I thought that was you." Mrs. Barker said wobbling over to us, I was certain she wasn't invited because Cody couldn't stand her and she definitely hated me. "I didn't see you a church last Sunday, we were discussing plans for the fundraiser and I know you tend to be extremely vocal on these matters." Mrs. Barker said smiling.
"Oh we were busy, so we did something at home.... oh hold still, your tag is showing." Layla said pushing something behind Mrs. Barker's ear, now I wasn't a wigologist or anything close to it but I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be sitting on her head like that. "Anyways, we were in the middle of a private conversation so could you....." She said smiling politely but I had a feeling these two women were frenemies.
"Hopefully I see you Sunday...." Mrs. Barker said shooting me a dark look and wobbling off, Layla turned back towards me and I saw where LaChae got her looks from, Layla was all over LaChae's face and it wasn't difficult to see what Chae was going to look like once she hit her mother's current age.
"So as I was saying...." Again she was cut off by Chae tossing Jizzle up against the side of the house and pulling at his shirt. They were literally going at it and if Layla hadn't cleared her throat when she did.... "Excuse me while I speak with my daughter, hopefully, we get the chance to talk later." She said walking over to Chae, looping her arm through Chae's, and steering her away leaving Jizzle looking frustrated.
"Where you been?" Cody asked when I found him sitting in the very back of his yard, he looked bored, and instinctively I wanted to do anything to change that.
"Helping your aunt, I think she wanted to tell me something but she kept getting cut off; first by Mrs. Barker and then by Chae and Jizzle. I'm sure we'll speak sooner or later... So how are you feeling? I'm surprised you aren't over there with your boys." I said glancing over to Peanut, Kendu, Osian, and Anthony who were all laughing about something.
"You know I didn't want to have this cookout to begin with, but now I'm just over it, as for them... I've had enough of them for the week and I refuse to listen to how Kendu seduced my cousin." Cody said covering his mouth, I kinda figured something like that happened. "But on the bright side, now I have more ammo to keep Bam away from Chris." Cody said smirking.
"Man, why are you blocking?" I asked smiling, I looked over at Chris who was having an animated discussion with Laurence about guns.... I couldn't quite put my finger on it but ever since he's returned Chris was different, he just seemed more relaxed, like he wasn't carrying around his past anymore. "Chris has a lot of catching up to do.... my boy has never had a hoe-phase and I'm encouraging that he lets his hair down before settling down and if Bam can keep my boy happy, even if for a night then I'm all for it."
