"Cody..... baby, hand me the gun." I said ignoring the chaos that was happening around me. You'd think with the trauma that I've experienced that my old demons would take over.... but no.... a new fear had been unlocked and it was one I never thought I would have to deal with. Cody stood there, gun in hand, smoke still billowing from the barrel as a man laid motionless on the street, his brains seeping out of his head and onto the pavement. Everything happened so fast that I couldn't tell you what happened, hell, my vision was still altered from the hit to the head but I could clearly make out the shock on Cody's face. Slowly that shock was turning into panic and regret, Cody wasn't built for this life, he was pure and I knew something like this would destroy him. I stepped forward slowly, Cody still had the gun aimed at the dude but he was long dead and his 'friends' had left him to bleed out on the street. I stepped forward again, watching helplessly as the tears began to stream down Cody's face, his small trembles had turned into full-blown shakes, and I knew I needed to get that gun away from him. One more step and my hand was on the gun, I was slowly pulling it away from him because I didn't know what he'd do in these crucial seconds. My thoughts were somewhere else too... this seemed very targeted, almost like a hit... a bad one but still..... now I just needed to figure out who and why.... I'd deal with that later, right now Cody was my main priority.

"I.... who is he?" Cody asked starting to look in the direction of the body but I turned his head away, he didn't need to see that... in fact, he didn't need to be out here at all.

"Look, go in the house.... I'll take care of everything, just.... Just do this for me." I said looking into his eyes. Surprisingly, Cody turned around and stumbled his way towards the house. maybe he was in such a fucked up state that he really didn't understand what was going on. I knew I needed to move fast, the police should be here within the next two minutes so I needed to move some pieces into place....

The first person I texted was my lawyer, I had already decided that I was going to be the one who took the blame, self-defense should be easy to prove since they came to Cody's house looking for trouble. Then I hit the group chat to let them know what was going on, I didn't tell them everything just let them know there was a dead dude near my car. Then I texted my dad, and let him know... knowing him, he'd probably be here before the police IF he was up. The final person I called was Cody's uncle, knowing him and his political influence could be vital in these next few hours. I thought about calling Renee but she didn't need ANY stress right now.

I saw the flashing lights approaching and took the magazine out of the gun before placing it on the hood of the car. We went through the whole dog and pony show before finally they let me go, I knew I had a right to defend my house... even if it wasn't technically mine. While they were conducting their investigation I scanned the area for Ring cameras... while useful they could poke a hole in my entire story.....

"LEGEND!!!" Lawrence said and I was surprised he made it here so fast, I noticed the man standing next to him and instantly knew it was Bam's dad.... "Where's Cody?" He whispered as he walked over to me and I pointed towards the house. "Look I'll take care of everything, but I need to know what happened....."

"I'll tell you everything, just not out here...." I said noticing Cullen pull up and even though it was nighttime, I could see that he was bursting with energy.... He had finally got one of the Hayes' on a charge even though he didn't know all the details he was going to push to make sure I ended up in jail. "Go inside and check on Cody.... make sure.... just make sure he's okay." I said keeping my eyes on Cullen, by this point, my head was throbbing but I waved off medical attention.

"Do you recognize the victim?" A random detective asked and I shook my head, I wasn't that fucked up but I can honestly say that I didn't recognize any of them.... but the dude on the ground he looked around 25..... still too young. "Okay, well right now we're not charging anything but if anything changes....."
