CHAPTER 31

Azrael drove his fastest speed to get to where Nyx was but damn the metro traffic and the rain. It took him two hours to get to her location.

He found the small sari-sari store. Agad siyang bumaba at sinalubong siya ng isang matandang tindera. 

"Nasa loob siya."

He was panting when he stood by the door. Her puffy eyes looked up and she immediately ran towards him. Her small body was shaking and she was sobbing. She was wet with the rain too.

"I'm here..."

He guided her to the car where she was still crying. She must have been shocked and stressed.

Binalingan niya ang tindera. "Salamat po at pinayagan niyo siyang makitawag. Nag-antay pa kayo ng dalawang oras."

Umiling ang tindera. "Kawawa naman siya eh. May mga tao talaga ngayon, kaya namang magtrabaho pero nang-hoholdup pa."

"Saan po ba kayo uuwi? Ihahatid ko na lang po kayo."

"Ay hindi na. Baka mapalayo kayo."

"Sige na po. Bilang pasasalamat ko na lang din po."

"O siya sige na nga."

Tulala pa rin si Nyx nang makasakay sila ng matanda. Malapit lang pala ang bahay nito. Nagpasalamat siya muli rito nang maibaba niya.

Nang sulyapan niya si Nyx ay mahimbing itong natutulog. She must have been tired from all of the stress she's been through.

When he checked the direction going to their hotel, nakita niya ang pulang marka sa mga daan. It might take them another two hours to get there.

He decided to go to his house which is an hour away. Naawa na rin siya kay Nyx na mukhang pagod na talaga. He only got one room and one bed but there's always the sofa for him. Ang nasa isip niya lang ngayon ay ang madala sa ligtas na lugar si Nyx.

When they got to his house, saka niya napag-alaman na hindi na madaraanan ang ibang kalsada papunta sa hotel nito. Buti na lang at hindi na sila tumuloy doon.

He gently shook her to wake her up. Agad naman siya nitong hinanap nang magmulat ito  ng mata.

"We can't go to your hotel right now. The roads are flooded. You can stay in my room if that's okay."

Tumango lamang ito sa kanya at nagpahila na lang hanggang sa makapasok sila sa bahay. He guided her to his bedroom. Saka niya naalala ang basa nitong damit.

"Let me get you something to wear."

He looked through his clothes and chose a simple shirt and sweatpants.

Nakaupo ito sa kama niya at nakatingin lang sa mga kamay nito. Nilapag niya ang mga damit sa gilid nito bago lumuhod sa harap nito.

"Your safe now, okay? You're with me. I won't let anybody hurt you, okay?"

"T-tinutukan niya ako ng baril, Azrael..." Her tears started rolling down her cheeks again. "Akala ko papatayin niya ako... Natatakot ako..."

He hushed her. Pinunasan niya ang mga luha nito. "I understand. It's normal for you to feel fear after the encounter. But know that you're in a safe place already."

"H-huwag mo akong iwan..."

Her pleading voice almost broke his heart. She doesn't need to ask.

"I'll be with you until you sleep."

After calming her down, she stood up and went to the bathroom. Lumabas muna siya at tinawagan ang sekretarya niya.

"Please cancel the meeting with Ms. Umali tomorrow. Schedule it in two days. Cancel my meetings for the next two days."

One thing he liked about his secretary, he doesn't ask. He might have things on his mind but he  never really voiced it out.

Mabilis din siyang kumuha ng damit at nagpalit na rin ng damit. Nang lumabas siya ng closet ay kalalabas din lang nito ng banyo.

"Are you hungry? Have you had dinner?"

Umiling ito sa kanya. 

"I can cook something for you. You can wait here-"

"S-sasama ako sa iyo."

He just nodded and they went down the stairs together. He's no cook like Chael but he can cook decent food.

Mabilis siyang naghanda ng grilled cheese sandwich at aglio olio. They ate in silence. She looks exhausted so he doesn't want to bother her too much.

After fixing the plates, umakyat na silang dalawa sa kwarto.

"You can sleep on my bed. Just let me know if you need anything else."

Palabas na sana siya nang hawakan nito ang braso niya. He looked at her but she didn't say anything.

Huwag mo akong iwan.

"I'll wait for you to fall asleep then."

She laid on his bed while he sat on the other side. He never shared his bed with anyone. Even in the club and here in his house. Nyx is the first woman to lay down on his bed.

She was asleep in no time. He should go out since she's asleep already but he can't make himself do it.

He gently brushed the strands of her hair from her face. Bumalik sa isip niya ang hitsura nito kanina at ang higpit ng yakap nito sa kanya. She was really scared to death. If he only could he will look for the fucker himself and kill him with his bare hands.

It must really be a shock to her when she was held at gunpoint. 

I'll stand by my words, Nyx. I'll keep you safe no matter what.

Nyx opened her eyes and was greeted by an unfamiliar room. The walls are dark blue. The bed and furniture are silver. 

Napako ang tingin niya kay Azrael na natutulog sa sofa. He looked uncomfortable and surely, his body will ache when he wakes up.

Naalala niya ang mga nangyari kagabi. It was one of the scariest nights of her life. Nanginginig siya sa takot kagabi dahil akala niya ay mamamatay na siya. It was much more scarier in person than how they portray it in movies.

Napatingin siya kay Azrael ulit. She always wondered how different she knew Azrael than the rest of the world. To everyone, he was a playboy. A man who sleeps with any woman he wants. To her, he was this. A man who knew how to care, protect and be a perfect gentleman. He had all the advantages to do anything to her but he chose to keep his distance. He was a caring boss to his employees.

She never felt so relieved to see him last night. She remembered how she hugged him tight and she never felt so safe.

Napangiti siya nang makita ang damit na suot niya. Kahit suot ang boxers ay sobrang haba rin naman ng t-shirt nito. He was a six footer and she's well...a foot and more shorter.

To repay his kindness, naisip niyang paghandaan ito ng agahan. Maingat siyang bumaba ng kama at kinumutan ito.

Nang makita niya ang laman ng ref nito ay napangiti siya. Mukhang marami siyang maluluto para rito.
