My eyes kept flickering to the time on the clock. Forty-five minutes left. I was getting antsy from the hours I spent in this glass bottle. Now that I had a plan, it was hard to go through with it. My ears heard the lock click and the door opened, revealing West.
I rolled my eyes and I lay back down again on the sand. Even though it would be my devastating doom, it actually made a way better bed than my cage before. "What do you want?"
He looked up at me and went to a table in a far corner, opening a cloth, revealing a long twisted sword. This was interesting. Before we got combined, the Darkmoon pack used guns like the other surrounding packs. On the bottom of the sword was their symbol. There was definitely something special about that; it wasn't a normal weapon. Perhaps it concealed dark magic? It could slay any beast? My mind wandered with the possibilities.
"I'm ready." The Alpha said, swinging the sword up to me, touching the glass.
I bit my lip. "West, please. This is insane, you're going against your own mate, now your own pack." I dragged myself as much as I could and pressed my palms against the glass.
"Shut up. My own 'mate' wouldn't allow dark magic."
"Who would allow dark magic class in a pups' school? Isla's faced a lot before and that's why she will never use it." I argued, then pain flew through my chest and I winced, falling down.
He sighed. "You are about to have no power, Mallory. Being angry won't help you at all. In fact, it takes out more of it. Dark magic is in my blood. I was born with it, I lived with it and I won't let my mate or any of you take it away from me." West seethed, leaving.
I panted, sweat running down my face. Calm down, Mal. Calm down, Mal. Don't let him get to you. It will only hurt you more. Closing my eyes, I finally let myself settle down.
"Meridin, my love." I gasped at the familiar voice of my mother. Everything was blurry. Her crystal blue eyes looked down at me and smiled. She shook a rattle above me and a chubby arm appeared in my line of vision. Wait...did I turn into a baby!? "Sweetheart, you'll choke if you keep putting your fist that far down in your mouth." She laughed and gently moved it away.
The walls started to shake and the ceiling started to crack. Mother gasped and looked above and around. Her arms went to me and she held me close to her chest. I couldn't see anything, I could only feel that she was running. No, I didn't turn into a baby. This was a memory. A memory of the Sky War, where all the gods and goddesses had to fight for survival.
She put me in a basket and stuck a bottle in my mouth. It wasn't milk though, it was a light blue potion. It tasted good. "I know you're confused, my Meridin. It's unlawful for a goddess to be giving anyone, especially a child, a potion made of dark magic." Her hand went to my face and stroked my cheek. "This is for your safety. You won't remember me. The time will come when you realize who you are. I will be there for you. I can't change you back into a full goddess."
Tears of glass started to fall down her face then she looked off into the distance. "No wait...there is. But I can't tell you. Sometimes, dark magic isn't what it seems. It can be used for good, just as I am doing for my baby."
Taking the bottle, Mother pressed her forehead against mine. "You are turning into a werewolf. I have to hide you before someone finds you, otherwise, they can change you back into a goddess and kill you. Daddy wouldn't want that..." Her eyes turned sad. "I love you, Meridin." She closed her eyes and snapped her fingers and I appeared in the same spot in the forest where I was found as a child.
I woke up suddenly, still in the sand timer. I started to cry and I hit the glass. "Mother, why did you give me that memory!? You can't save me yourself? Aren't you a goddess along with your brothers and sisters?! You sent me away...I understand...but--" Dark magic can be used for good.
That was it. West and Ryan despised the fact that packs were thinking of it as wrong. We never saw the flipside of the coin. I had dark magic in me as well. That was what kept me as a werewolf. The color drained from my face, now knowing that I may never see my Mother again.
I frantically tried to pull the clamps off of my legs, clawing the gold. "No, no no!" I hissed when it burned me. "West!! Alpha!!" I screamed, banging the wall of the timer. The door flew open and the Alpha came in, annoyed. He was now wearing a black cape with a moon on the back of it. This was the sign he was preparing for a battle.
"What is it?!"
"I promise, I promise I will help you! I will show Isla and even the whole freaking pack if you want to on how your magic can be used for good." I whispered. "I have magic in me as well."
He scoffed. "Duh, goddess blood. We're taking it out of you."
Biting my lip, I shook my head. "No...I have dark magic in me as well. Just like you."
West's eyes widened. "How?"
"I had a dream. This is how my mother was able to keep me as a werewolf. You may be half-wolf blood half dark magic. If you take the goddess blood out of me, I will only be dark magic. Who knows what I will turn into!" I said, distraught. "Please. You need to get these off of me. I know you are bonded with Isla...this will hurt her more than imaginable if I turn into who knows what." I whispered.
Knowing that he was pondering about it, I waited. It was better than to get him even madder. "I can't. Ryan did it on his own. The only one who wields it can only undo it. That's the law of dark magic. Unless you're extremely powerful." West said quietly.
This was it. It was fine if I died by a timer. I'd rather die than turn into something that could hurt my friends and family. He sighed and I looked at him. "I'll tell him the information you told me. I'm getting ready for war." West turned and closed the door, not bothering to lock it.
I smiled to myself. I knew he was still there. He may not be completely right, but he was there. I fell onto the sand and looked up at the cap. There was hope. Everyone would be coming soon. I didn't know what type of army the two had conjured up. They would be stupid if they didn't.
