"Well, that took a lot of convincing." I chuckled as Jenna led me out of their small cottage-like home. It was extremely cozy on the outside but on the inside, it was as if the technology age had thrown up in there.
She smiled and shrugged. "Daniel would do anything, but when he comes up with a task that he can't do he gets a bit defensive because it's out of his skill. How was the pain though? Are you still feeling it anymore?"
I shook my head, "No, I felt better since this morning. I hope you are as well."
"Yeah, but that was hell going in and back. Remind me to never switch positions with a goddess."
A rustling started in the trees, causing us to look towards the start of the sound. Since the battle, we had been on our toes and we weren't ready to back down now. Jenna grabbed a spear swiftly that was on the side of the house and waited.
Suddenly, a girl fell out of the bushes. I never remembered seeing a girl like her before in any of the two packs. She was tanned with a brown bob. Her eyes were a crystal blue that stood out beneath her dark bangs. She was completely dirty and her white dress was torn and soon she passed out.
"What the..." Jen whispered, looking at the lying girl.
Without thinking for a second, I ran over, rolling her on her back. I put my head on her chest. She was still breathing, thank Goddess. "We gotta take her to the pack doctor," I said. The Beta nodded. Together, we put her on Jenna's back and headed down the hill towards Bella Scott's office.

Inside the small white waiting room, there were a couple of wolves and some pups. Some of the wolves, I could see, were still recovering from the conflict with West. They smiled at me, regarding me and went back to their own business.
Bella opened the curtain to see us and Miss Doe. Her eyes narrowed slightly at Jenna. Before when Mila was sick, Jen made her swear to secrecy but of course, that demoted her. I knew the pack doctor hated that but in risking her job, since she was the only one with medical experience besides her mother, she resented the Beta.
"What do we have here?" She asked, walking over and moving the hair out of the girl's face to see what the problem was.
"No idea. She just appeared from the forest. I'll check to see if the warriors are there now. They must have gotten a warning. The girl is not from our packs because she came into our territory." I said.
She nodded and guided Jennalyn inside along with the patient. "Olivia, did you get an intrusion from the east side of our pack? Near the Beta's house?" I mind-linked the chief of our warriors.
Not a moment later there was a reply, "Yes, but nothing is there. Do you know anything?"
"Yes. It was a girl who fainted. We're at the pack doctor's now. Maybe the Alphas will recognize her? Or Ariella?"
"Ariel is still out of town. I'll ask Alpha Isla to come over."
Clove spoke suddenly, "There's something strange about Jane Doe. I feel as if we know her. There's some strange aura I can't grasp."
"Hm. Maybe Alpha will know." I sighed and sat down on the seats.
The door opened again and Isla stood over me, raising an eyebrow. "So? Is the girl inside with the doctor?"
Groaning, I stood back up. I couldn't get time to even sit down. "Yes. I think Bella will be fine if we go in. Come on." We walked behind the curtain to see the two at the examination table. The girl still looked pale and unconscious but she was cleaned up by the doctor. Jen smiled at the Alpha and waved her over.
Alpha Isla returned the smile and walked over. "So, let's see who this woman is--" The blood drained from her face when she got a good look at the patient. "No. No, it can't be..."
"Alpha?" I put a hand on her shoulder. "Who is she?"
"This...this is Lacey." She whispered.
Our eyes widened. "How? But, but you said this girl was from the Southern Packs."
She nodded. "She is. How did Lacey end up all the way here?"
Bella answered, "It's clear this female has been walking for days. The skin on her feet is all torn up. There are some calluses forming too. Does she not have shoes?"
Isla snorted. "They only have heels."
Another warning struck me. "Wait. Isla, didn't you say this girl was the mate of the Alpha of the Blood Rose Pack?
She whipped around to look at me, now even more in shock."Oh no. Oh no, no-no..." She muttered, running her hands through her auburn hair. "The Alpha is going to come here. I can't deal with that poor excuse of a man! You know what he did to my mother!"
"Alpha, Alpha.." Bella rubbed her hand down Isla's arm soothingly. "I can tell he has some effect on you. You have some trauma from your past. I would advise you to let your mate and the others take care of it. If you do this yourself, you might make mistakes that can cause you or our pack harm. I'm saying this to help you. Tell Alpha West about this."
We nodded and she sighed. "You're right. Every time I stare into those golden eyes..they haunt me. You know, he only keeps Lacey there so as to not harm himself. If he's still doing those terrible deeds..." She lifted up the girl's dress and I cringed. Her whole front was all battered and bruised. The worst thing for a mate was to have them sleep with someone else. It caused a physical effect on you.
"That's terrible. Really terrible." Jen whispered, looking away from Lacey's wounds. "Mallory, can't you heal them?"
I sighed. "Yes, but they'll just keep coming. I'll give her temporary relief now." I put my hands on her stomach and closed my eyes. Heal her. Heal this poor girl from the wicked acts of her mate. Moving my hands from her chest down to her stomach, I continued, feeling a coolness under them. When I opened my eyes, the bruises had disappeared completely.
"Thank you, Mal. The horror this girl has been through...I can't even imagine." Isla whispered, taking Lacey's hand and squeezing it.

We left the doctor. Isla wanted to stay with Lacey and we started the trek up to Jen's house. "Aren't we lucky?" The Beta said. "We have such loving mates. I've been with Daniel for a year and a half. I could never ask for anything more."
I laughed. "You're right, he would do anything for you. It's only been maybe a week since I was with Dion...only a couple of days as we started being mates. He's hot. Really hot." I smirked.
Jen rolled her eyes. "You've said, multiple times. I remember when I first met Daniel, I was head over heels in love. Everyone thought it was the weirdest relationship. But he's perfect for me. I wonder how that Alpha Dyna reacted when he realized Lacey was his mate..."
I nodded in agreement. There were a lot of cases where Alphas, even normal wolves didn't like what the Moon Goddess blessed them with. It was ridiculous and selfish. Mostly, they would die at the end.
"Well, we should be grateful. You got a cute mate, Isla got a daring mate, and I got a hot mate." I teased, sticking my tongue at her.
She glared at me, pushing me. "Hey, Daniel can be hot! You just have to look at it in a certain way."
"Mmhm, yeah, sure."
