Three days passed by with endless walking. Though I had motivation, most of it was slowly draining away, each step we took. I was confused whether or not these flames were leading us somewhere good or who knew, to Hell.
We had been going through a dark valley, now surrounded by trees. The route we took though was escalating further down as we went. I was sure we'd be in the pit of darkness now. I yawned, my eyes slowly drooping. I wasn't sure whether it was night or day, but the dark made me sleepy. I suddenly tripped over nothing before Dion put his arm around my waist just in time to steady me.
"Little Goddess, I think you need some sleep." The man said, his eyes looking concerned.
I nodded quietly and I laid down on the soft grass, thankful that we were out of the hard ground from before. He put a blanket over me and laid beside me, looking up at the overcast sky. Feelings of sadness started to bubble up in me. I put my hands over my eyes to cover up the tears that were beginning to flow.
Dion turned and his eyes widened. "Mallory, what's wrong?'
"I-I just miss my family. I feel as if we're doing this for nothing. This was only for me and my selfish ways. I should have gone to search for West and Ryan. It's as if I don't even care for my own mate!" My hands continued to wipe the flowing drops, "Isla is so nice...She's there with only Jen. I miss my mother...Why won't she contact me?"
Without responding, he rolled over and pulled me into his chest as I bawled like a baby. This was ridiculous. I shouldn't be okay with this. However, it felt right. He rubbed my back gently in circles until I finally calmed down.
After a while, Dion sighed. "I'm sure everyone is alright. Besides, if something happened to the Moon Goddess, all the wolves would know--you would definitely know." He kept me to his chest and I nodded. He was right; I would most assuredly know. She was my mother. I was the Second Moon of the Night.
"Goddesses never die. Why would I be born? That seems impossible."
"You're right, they can't die. However, if she decides to give up her position as, well, basically the Queen of the Moon, you would take over."
I gulped. Me? Take over making sure that the moon would always come up at the right time of night and go down once the day started? Going to all the meetings my aunts, uncles, maybe even cousins go to? That sounded intense. I never thought of leaving my pack. I would have to live up there in the sky.
He chuckled. "I'm kind of glad you were chosen, though. You seem responsible enough to take care of such a job."
I crossed my arms. "I am very responsible, thank you very much!"
"It was a compliment!"
"I sensed a sneaky insult in there too."
Dion laughed, a deep husky laugh. Great. I was basically cheating on my mate, checking him out. I took both blonde curls on either side of my face and pulled them down, covering my eyes. He was really annoying.

Our walking started up again, boring as always. Dion tried to hit me up with his pick-up lines to make me crack a smile; it did.
"Okay okay, that seems heavy. Can I hold it for you?"
"What?" I smirked. I heard this one so many times, from Lance, even from Ryan.
"Your hand."
I rolled my eyes. "You know that's borderline offensive. Are you basically calling my hand, fat? That's just rude."
He blinked and looked away, contemplating the obvious information on the pick-up line. I mean, I wasn't wrong, right? There would always be a comeback for the stupid lines male wolves try on she-wolves, even humans.
"Malloryyy..."
I whipped my head up to look at the little fire sparking on the branch a little farther away. The engaging tune was there again. It never sang my name for a long time, it had only been leading us.
Dion put a hand on my shoulder. "You okay, Little Goddess?"
"It's calling me...what is it?" I yelled out, hoping it would respond.
The ble flóge gave a tinkling laugh and flew over, circling me. "Malloryyy!"
I gulped. "It's just calling my name."
He looked around, jerking his head back and forth. "Then something must be here. It can't say anything, only repeat the person it's guiding, name. Do you see anything?"
Shooing the flame away, I squinted between the masses of trees then gasped and pointed. "Look! Beyond the mountains! There's a dark castle or mansion thing."
Dion snapped his fingers together. "Then that's where we're heading."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello hello!
I am extremely bored in self-quarantine, just putting it out there.
(Just kidding, I'm too broke to have a robot vacuum cleaner)
Why do you think the Moon Goddess isn't contacting Mallory?
What do you think the mansion will be about?
