Sophie could crawl, she could babble, and could pull herself up to stand. I had missed all those pretty important things in Sophie's life but now I was refusing to miss her first steps. That wasn't going to happen.
"Come on Soph," I hold my arms out for her. She was gripping on tightly to the coffee table. "All you have to do is let go and walk towards me." I try to coax her. "No big deal."
I had Sophie for an extra week. Avery agreed to let her stay with me for seven more days and I was so happy i could've kept through the phone and kissed her. But instead I said thanks and left it at that.
Calum lets out a little laugh. "Yeah," he types on his phone again. "She might fall."
"She won't." I glare up at him. "She'll be fine." I then look at Sophie and bite my lip. "You'll be fine." I tell her she wasn't listening. "Come on." I reach out for Sophie but this time she doesn't even look at me. She just lets go of the table and plunks down onto her butt, giggling at me.
"She's mocking you." Calum says not taking his eyes off his phone.
"I get that." I sigh and stand. I pick up Sophie and lets her head fall on my chest.
Calum chuckles at his phone before typing away at it again. I peer over to him noisily. He'd been on that thing since he got here. He just kinda showed up unannounced.
"Is that Becca?" I just assumed.
"What?" Calum says as I sit down on the opposite couch. I point to his phone and Sophie grabs onto my finger, beginning to put it in her mouth. "Oh." Calum finally understands what I mean. "No, this is Lisa." Calum smirks.
"Lisa?" I repeat.
"Yeah, Lisa." Calum says back and continues on his phone.
"You know," I begin. "Just by continuously telling me her name doesn't make me know who she is." Calum looks back up at me. "Who is she?"
"Some girl I met." Calum shrugs.
"Right." I says slowly. "And?"
"And we are going out tonight." Then Calum quickly adds. "But don't worry. I'll make sure we go back to hers, not Karlie's. I'm not sure she would be okay with that."
I stare at Calum open mouthed trying to work out what to say. "Do you...?" I begin but don't know how to continue.
"What?" Calum shakes his head.
"Becca?" I finally get out.
"Becca? What's she got to do with this?" Calum raises an eyebrow.
"She's the mother of your child right?" I check.
"Yeah, but..." Calum trails off and into a sigh. He locks his phones and puts it down beside him on the couch. He slumps down before talking again. "It's not like we are dating."
"But you were." I say. "And you have a daughter together. I'm guessing that has to bring back some old feelings."
I had hoped that when Calum found out about Talia this would put an end to his way with girls. That maybe he would grow up a little and realize he's a dad now and has to start acting like it. I also hoped that this could mean Calum and Becca could have a second chance at a relationship that should've lasted longer than it did.
Looking at Calum now, I know I might have hoped for a little too much.
Calum shakes his head. "She's with someone else."
"Wait?" I note that Calum didn't exactly say no. "What? How?"
"When I was helping with Talia two nights ago," Calum sighs. "I found some guy stuff in her bathroom."
