Previously:

They pulled apart and y/n let Benny drive her back to her house. He stayed the night there on being insisted by her.

Y/n was happy that he broke it off with Beth, not because she had hope for herself, but because it was terrible that Benny had to go through an unhealthy relationship and she wasn't here to support him for most of it.

It took him three months to get over the traumatic stages of being in a relationship with Harmon. He flinched at the smallest things, people raising voices at someone around him, going to loud bars, the nightmares and a constant fear that he would never find someone who will truly love him, and be kind to him.

Benny was scared, there were times when he lost hope, and thought that he was going to be this scared little man for all his life, but y/n was there through it all.

The girl was persistent in staying with him at all times, waiting at his place more often and checking up on him during nights when he woke up feeling restless.

Though she was delighted to be with him, it hurt her everyday when she knew he would never love her or even look at her as something more than just friends.

But the thing that mattered the most was that he was getting back to how he used to be, cocky and charming. He flirted with her like he used to, though he had no clue he was hurting her in the process.

Getting her hopes high only to crash them later.

'Let's go to the bar!' he exclaimed sitting across from her as he moved the pieces on his chess board.

'I can't, I'm sleepy.' yawned y/n.

It was just ten in the night, the girl was done with her day after she made up her mind to stay at his place after work.

'Come on, this game is boring, and I know you need a night out.' he raised his brow mischievously.

'Ugh Benny!' she groaned in disappointment.

He tugged at her arm to pull her drowsy state up and put his hat on her head.

'I'll carry you, and you can take a nap till the time we reach there.' said Benny.

'You're going to carry me for like...two blocks?' she raised her brow unbelievably.

Y/n wasn't used to being carried by someone and to her, it felt odd.

'Yeah, it's pretty easy. Now, hop on!' he turned his back to her.

She let out a soft sigh and got on his back, her feet crossed on his torso as his hands held the back of her thighs.

__________

Her head rested on his shoulder where she hid her face in the crook of his neck, the hat shield her eyes from the streetlights, her hair swayed smoothly in the wind, and Benny hummed a tune softly.

Small moments like these made her heart flutter, he cared a lot, but not enough to love her.

'Benny?' she spoke against his neck.

'Hmm?' he tilted his head at her.

'Are we there yet?' she asked.

She was barely patient, bored of looking at his polished shoes as they clacked against the cemented pavement.
