Newt× Reader

The idea of this imagine has been taken from James Dashner's book, The Maze Runner.

He sits under a willow tree, wondering why someone would have put him in a place full of horrors and nightmares. He doesn't know who he is, he doesn't know anything about his family or friends, he doesn't know about his past, they only let him keep his name...Newt. A solitary tear trickles down his cheek when he realises that there is no one to look after him, no one to love or care for, he's alone. That's when something different happens, he's snapped out of his trance by a soft voice, a girl's voice.

"Newt, can you hear me?" she says. He cranes his neck, checks around him for the source of the voice but he finds no one. For the first few minutes, he looks terrified but then the voice speaks again. "Calm down Newtie, I'm not actually around you, I'm inside your head."  she says. This freaks him out even more. Why the bloody hell am I hearing voices in my head? he thinks. He gets up from his place and goes to find Minho and Alby, the only people other than him in the glade.

Alby was the first one to arrive, he had to spend an entire month alone in this place, Newt and Minho arrived together just a couple of days ago. Sometimes Newt thinks about Alby, how he might have lived here all alone. Newt debates with himself whether to tell Minho about the voice, but then he feels that Minho will probably think that he's out of his mind, so he just shrugs it off. The doors of the maze start closing, just the way Alby had described.

Newt is scared, what if they never open up again? Those walls are huge, nearly impossible to climb. They cook a small meal and go to their hammocks to get some sleep. Alby calls this place as 'homesteads'. Newt looks up at the clear sky, several thoughts racing in his curious mind but sleep takes over eventually and he falls in a world of dreams. "Everything's going to be okay, just concentrate, they want us to do this." he hears a familiar voice, it's like he's watching a movie with his younger self in it.

He sees himself and a girl, they're both probably fourteen, they're sitting opposite to each other, holding hands. His eyes are closed and the girl, she has beautiful eyes and long hair, she's looking at him. "I can't do this." his younger self says. " Okay, come with me Newtie, let's take a break." the girl says. She drags him out of the weird white room, they keep walking down a corridor, never leaving each others hands. She brings him on an open terrace and they spend time there, he looks happy in her company.

Five months later:

Newt is the second in command, he spends most of his day in the maze, running and mapping all the routes to find a way out. They have realised that they are trapped and that the creators are watching them. Everyone thinks he's a perfect guy, Alby's perfect second in command. But that's not true...even with all his memories gone, he knows that something's missing, he feels empty. All of this is so stressful, and he just cannot have it, he doesn't want to. He still hears her voice, she tells him confusing things, things that make him go even more crazy.

He tries to dig in his memories, he tries to remember who she is, but he can't, this makes him frustrated. It's been fifteen days since he last heard from her, she's never done that before. Even if he doesn't know who she is or what she wants, hearing her sweet voice keeps him sane to some extent. Newt wakes up at dawn, it's cooler, the crisp air touches his wet cheeks as he goes to the map room and gets ready to run the maze. He feels different today, something in him has changed.

Half an hour later, he stands in front of the north doors and they open wide apart as if inviting him inside. He turns around and looks at the glade. Today, he doesn't wait for the keeper of the runners as he always does, instead, he sprints through the main corridors alone. He goes deeper and runs faster, avoiding the growing ache in his chest. He stops when he can't run anymore, his feet are paining and he breathes heavily. He knows that he's tired, alone, lonely and unloved. That's when he sees it, the tallest wall in the maze.

Should I write a part two? This one is definitely incomplete and I've got a nice idea for it.
