"Would you stop laughing?" I snapped at Amir the following day.
He tried but the work it took to hold back was turning him pink.
I glared at him. "Stop."
He snorted. "If this works you're a genius but this is still somehow way stupider than an idea I could come up with."
"How can it be dumb but still make me a genius, moron." I huffed, grabbing my bag and moving into position.
He thought about it. "You're right." He moved away to behind the trees. "Just dumb."
I rolled my eyes and stood, watching the time carefully on my phone.
He wasn't wrong, I felt like this was an idea that would work, but it still felt like one of the dumbest things I had chosen to do in a long time.
The preparations for the school festival were in full swing and everyone was busy, that was including all years meaning the one below us, which Callen and Amir were in, were still setting things up for their classes.
Coincidentally Callen was a part of the photography shop but he was also taking part in the swimming competition, like the little overachiever he was. Most people going from the swimming hall to block C take the much quicker route of going round the back of block B to get there, which was why I was waiting. And as for others showing up I could only hope they didn't, because as far as I knew no one else from photography was going to do the swimming competition as well.
If Callen decided he was dull enough then maybe he would take the extra two thirds of path to get there as well... but if that was the case we would pin him down later, although we wouldn't have tomorrow since it was a Friday.
So we waited for him and the moment we heard footsteps Amir backed away and hid and I moved against the wall to wait for them.
Initially a false alarm, just some random kid I didn't recognise who gave me a weird look like he thought I was about to jump him for his milk money or jelly beans or something, and then bingo! Callen came slowly heading past round the corner, head down watching the ground as he walked.
I quickly stepped in front of him and he looked up at me in surprise.
"Wh-"
"Hey."
He glared at me, looked me up and down and tried to move around me, closest to the wall, I slammed my hand on the wall in front of me and he jolted back, wide eyed.
"Hey." I repeated myself.
"What is this, what do you you want Akara, get out of the way!"
I raised an eyebrow, glaring at him and the dumb mole in the middle of his right cheek, his usually short cropped brown light hair, faded at the sides, darker from being wet, but his uniform buttoned up to the tie button as always, and almost creaseless. He'd have to carry an iron with him if he wanted to match Jacob's OCD level of attention to detail.
"I could ask you the same thing Callen." I glared at him. "What's your problem?"
"Don't have one, you do, move." He glared back.
"You're blackmailing me, you prick!" I exclaimed.
"So what?!"
"So why!" I shouted back.
"Because you never do as I say otherwise!"
"So? It's not like I'm out murdering people, I just wanna skate through the front gate and you're coming up on me like a little prick ordering me around. Leave me alone!"
