"So why am I here, you like me?" I asked frankly, mainly because I knew whatever came out of her mouth was going to be bullshit.

She nodded shyly, looking up at me, inching closer to me so that her side brushed up against me. "I've always noticed you..." She murmured.

"Really." I replied, trying not to speak too flatly, trying to play along. "Since when?"

She had to think about it. "This past year."

"What set am I in-"

"All set fours."

That was a fast response. I narrowed my eyes. I wasn't even in all set fours, I was in set three four English, it seemed impossible to get into set four for that class unless you explicitly pissed off the teacher.

"So how do you know me?"

"Lunch time." She gave me the well rehearsed line. "I see you around the place." She nudged me lightly with her shoulder. "You're cute."

"I haven't seen you around much though." I eyed her down.

Again for a split second I saw her raise an eyebrow like she didn't understand my reaction to her, some disconcerted annoyance filtering through. "I'm off a lot." She made a sad face. "I have a chronic illness."

I nodded slowly. "I see."

She nodded. "So," She inched even closer, at this point she was fully pressed up against me, one of her long slender legs brushing up against my leg. Alarm bells were ringing. "Do you like me?" Emily asked.

I glanced down at the most adorable face in the universe and felt her leg against mine and felt like running to hide.

This felt like the worlds worst game of chicken, but straight instead of gay.

I pursed my lips and stared at her for a moment longer, glanced at the bonfire and saw someone sitting next to Jacob, I knew his form perfectly well, sitting in his own little bubble, a million people circling it, trying to get close, but somehow wordlessly sent away. A smaller form that was inching closer, and he didn't move away.

Where the fuck was Atlas? I narrowed my eyes and turned back to her.

"Of course I do." I said with a sudden smile.

And she laughed, genuinely sounding happy, slipping her freezing fingers in between mine.

"You know what?" I told her. "How about I show you something?"

She blinked. "Uh, what?"

"A really good spot to see the sky, I noticed it earlier, before the sun even went down. Kinda romantic right?"

She nodded, a little relieved. I snickered.

Was my sudden willingness to torture her for messing with me something I got from Atlas and Jacob, or something I had always had innately? Somehow I believed it was the former. I had learnt from the masters.

So I took her hand and led her down through the trees. There was no real pathway so it hard difficult to walk through, especially given how dark it was, but the trees also weren't that dense, the main offender was really the shrubbery, low laying branches, roots, brambles and nettles.

I tried to keep a relatively firm line, and soon enough we were closer to the general chatter, enough so that I could see the bonfire between the trees.
