It felt weird getting off the coach, knowing there was nothing else to do other than leave and go home. I wasn't sure what I expected, maybe the final boss or something, we hadn't fought off a dragon or saved a princess so it seemed as though our adventure wasn't exactly finished.

I still felt the sun somehow burning my skin through the mostly cloud covered sky, and the cold wind wrapping around us as we climbed up the hills, and the feeling of mud and water in my shoes as I trudged along between them, and I could still feel the odd texture of the cold tent floor and the debris and grass beneath it pressing into my back as I soaked up as much warmth from either side as I could.

After having spent most of the coach ride sleeping I felt a little dazed getting off the coach, and almost motion sick for a moment missing the vibrating shell of the bus, I could almost still feel it.

I stood and stretched my arms, yawning.

Just as we were touching ground the teacher came up behind Jacob and smiled broadly at him.

"I'm really proud of you for taking care of him this whole time," She then turned to me. "And it even seems you've made a friend." She glanced at Atlas. "If you work very hard, you might be able to get put in the same set as them in one of your subjects." She smiled broadly at me. "Would you like that?"

I didn't know how to answer that, the idea of saying 'yes' made me uncomfortable and saying 'no' meant I both hated them and the idea of doing anything with my life.

Her smile faded a bit, she stared at me for a moment longer and then nodded to herself quietly. "Well, good job on the hike, even if you didn't take part in the quiz." There was something slightly chiding in her tone. "Shame, they were some good rewards you missed out on. Maybe your friends who did the quiz without you shared some?"

"Not much of a sweets person."

"Ahh, boys." She nodded knowingly.

I tried with everything in me not to make any kind of expression. It was always a tug of war between knowing they meant well and immediately disliking everything they said, but not being able to pinpoint exactly why. I mean it was annoying, but maybe it didn't warrant my immediate irritation.

Atlas watched her ass as she left and I frowned at him. "Really?" It wasn't jealousy, but she was our teacher, kinda weird.

Atlas shrugged and slugged an arm around my neck and pulled me forwards. "Are you going back with the cousin?"

I nodded, looking around for him, noticing the glances our way I tried to pull him off but he wrestled me for a moment, annoying me until we both saw Gift approaching and he let up, eyes examining Gift as he casually stepped up to us.

"You said you know what bus is it we need to get back home?"

"Yeah- Yeah..." I glanced back at Jacob and Atlas, expecting them to say goodbye or anything. But Atlas raised his eyebrows at me and Jacob was just looking at Gift, a slight narrowing to his eyes.

"Bye." I mumbled, kind of waiting for a response.

But Jacob's piercing gaze was on Gift, and Atlas had turned to look at Jacob, an eyebrow raised, having apparently noticed his odd reaction as well.
