[A/N] I had a burger for the first time yesterday, don't think my stomach knew how to digest it. I got ill for a while. (o'〰'o) Anyway update is here now....

"Guys!" Miss Westfield spoke over the accumulated chattering of the groups as they began to settle in together with one another, the second teacher in charge of the trip, a thin guy, the sort that you knew looking at was probably freakishly good at hiking for no reason at all, called Mr Brisby, who was technically in charge of the class below. "I need quiet please!"

Gift was sitting near the front, occupied with the curious 11s who were still trying to chase him with questions. I was noticing a lot of female faces peering closely at him and I stifled a laugh. Lucky bastard.

I glanced at the two walls of muscle on either side of me, casually slinging their hiking backpacks over their shoulders, Atlas texting someone on his phone.

I looked around, a couple people looking in their direction, hovering close by, both of them the recipient of surprisingly equal attention since that at class most people avoided Atlas given his reputation.

Apparently in the wild everyone was better looking, except me. All the cute girls ran a mile from me. I watched them lean into Gift with a frown.

Jacob, standing slightly ahead, glanced back at me and I looked forward immediately.

I got a bit of cold sweat when he looked at me like that, a little slice of grey-blue, like he was just about to read my mind. Which was rarely a good idea. Everything I did got me in trouble, can't imagine what reaction my thoughts on display would recieve.

"Quiet everyone!" Mr Brisby added a moment after the group began to settle down. "You've had your fun on the coach, yeah? This isn't set four guys, you worked hard to be in set one, you shouldn't be behaving like set four."

I immediately didn't like him, and that despite knowing he was a good teacher that people liked. I felt like I was being called out. The way that teachers talked about people that worked for fast food places, like doing such a thing would be akin to rolling onto your belly and accepting death.

There was a similar feeling towards the set four of the academy. Useless layabouts destined for nowhere, and that despite the fact that set four worked like the rest of the nerds in this school.

If anything set four was like a regular class at any other school. Normal people who wanted to live their lives as well as study. Most of which weren't as rich as the average selection of students, and didn't have tutors.

There was a slight stifled laughter pointed in my direction, I just stood and said nothing.

"Alright guys," Miss Westfield continued. I didn't know why but the word 'guys' sounded so weird the way she said it. "You've hopefully gone over your information sheets. This hike is no small deal, but no matter how tough it is, just remember the journey is the accomplishment, every step you take, you can give yourself a pat on the back for, okay?"

There was predictably no reply, but a couple nods from the front of the group.

"Okay, in a minute Mr Brisby will hand out lanyards with our school logo on it, yeah? You have to take out the card in the plastic attached to the lanyard and turn it over, and fill out your emergency contact numbers on there. Your mom, your dad, your care provider or sister, whoever it is, just make sure it's legible."

Mr Brisby began handing out the lanyards, very slowly and fumbling over pulling each one free from the stack. I accepted one, the actual lanyard material had the academy name and crest on it a couple times, and the card attached had the words:
