the dark sky had overtaken the bright ones from earlier, the lamps were turned on to brighten up the park. there were no one in the park except for the students, the school must've booked the park for the day.
according to the schedule, it was dinner time.
hyejin limps to the table with all the food. the pain had went down a lot, she could walk around on her own now, but it was still a struggle, but anytime she put force on her ankle, it would hurt.
the girl licks her lips at the delicious smell, taking a paper plate, walking down the line where each teacher would put a plate of rice, meat and vegetables. she pouts a little when she notices the small portion, but doesn't complain.
hyejin then tries— keyword: tries, to walk to the park bench where jungwoo and daeun were sitting at. it was difficult, but if she was just patient enough...
"what are you doing walking alone?" she hears someone speak from beside, scaring the girl.
hyejin gasps, turning to glare at the boy, "you scared me!" she scolds, "well, those two were together, and you... i don't know where you were, so i walked alone," she shrugs casually.
jaehyun frowns, linking an arm with hyejin's as his free hand carried his plate of food. "you should've called for me then. i'm responsible of you now, you know that? if anything happens to you, mr lee would come find me first."
hyejin pouts but doesn't complain, she let jaehyun lead the way to the table with her friends. jaehyun waits for hyejin to finally sit down before he takes a seat opposite from her.
"oh, hyejin-ah," daeun smiles, "is your ankle okay? does it still hurt?"
hyejin reassures her friend with a smile, "it still hurts a little, but i can get around just fine."
"yah," jaehyun calls, gaining attention from the table. he points his chopstick at hyejin, "i better not see you walking around without any help, you understand me? if you hurt yourself any more, i would be in huge trouble."
"i won't," she groans.
"did you know how heavy it was to carry you? my back hurts because of you," complains jaehyun.
hyejin frowns but she doesn't bother arguing since her stomach was already begging for food. the girl rushes to eat her food since climbing the mountain took up most of her energy. in less than 10 minutes, her plate was clean of food.
she looks around the table, seeing that her friends were still eating. she nudges daeun, "do you think we can refill?"
"i don't think so," daeun replies, "i heard that they only made enough for us and the teachers."
a pout forms on hyejin's lips as she taps her fingers against her paper plate in dazed. jaehyun gazed at her for some time, until he lets out a sigh. he uses his chopsticks to place a few pieces of meat that he had left.
hyejin looks up at him, confused.
"i'm not that hungry," he says, "i'm trying to maintain my weight, so i'll just eat rice and the vegetables," he lies.
jaehyun watches as a smile forms on hyejin's face as she picks up the meat with her chopsticks, plopping it in her mouth as she chews on it happily.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘the students huddled over the bonfire for warmth. some toasting marshmallows, some had brought their own snacks to share with their friends, and some were playing games.
