the snores coming from both her parents were starting to get to her. hyejin is usually a heavy sleeper, but right at this moment, she couldn't sleep a wink because of how noisy her parents are.
hyejin sighs, tapping her phone to check the time.
it was almost 1 in the morning.
her brother was dead asleep next to her, she doesn't know the answer to how her brother could sleep so peacefully with the noise.
she couldn't take it anymore, the girl pushes the blanket off her legs, getting up. hyejin carefully twists the door knob open, walking out of the door to the kitchen.
hyejin didn't get to eat much during dinner just a few hours ago. well, it would be considered a lot, but to her, it was barely anything. it was really hard to sit on the same table with someone she has confessed her feelings to just a few days ago.
the girl tip toes, and bends down as she tries to find for any food. most of it were healthy, something that she definitely was not craving for at this moment— or, ever. she knows that her parents had bought some snacks, but where was it?
"it's in—"
"oh fuck!" a soft yelp leaves hyejin's lips, whipping around to see jaehyun towering over her, "fuck, you scared me," hyejin lets out a relief sigh, her hand landing on her chest to calm her erratic beating heart.
"sorry," jaehyun chuckles, smiling at the sight of the girl. this was the first that she had spoken to him in the span of a few days. he was happy. "you're looking for the chocolate bars, right? it's in the fridge. it melted on the way back home, so it's a little messy."
"oh," she says, turning around to open the fridge. she spots the purple packaging sitting inside, she pulls 2 chocolate bars out, as she pulls herself up on the kitchen counter, her legs swinging as she tears open the packaging.
hyejin couldn't help but wonder why jaehyun was awake at this timing. she would've asked him if she wasn't in the midst of ignoring him. she had already broken her streak after a few days, which annoyed her, really.
jaehyun goes around the counter to where the kettle was, his back facing hyejin. hyejin chewed on her chocolate as she stares mindlessly at jaehyun's broad back. her eyebrows furrow when she sees something small and dark moving in the corner of her eye.
hyejin turns and her eyes train on the huge cockroach, eyes widening in realisation.
"oh my god!" she whispers, but loud enough to make jaehyun turn around.
"wh—"
hyejin points at the cockroach which was not currently moving, only its antlers moving around, "fuck, go kill it!" she beckons, looking at jaehyun with widen eyes. hyejin brings her legs up on the counter, something she usually does not do since her mother would scold her for it.
jaehyun was disgusted, by the cockroach, of course. he was afraid of insects himself, but he couldn't just look like a coward in front of hyejin.
"it's just a cockroach," jaehyun laughs nervously, although he could feel the eery feeling crawling up his legs.
"then go kill it!" hyejin motions, "once it moves, i don't think i could sleep if i know it's moving around the house."
jaehyun turns to look back at the cockroach, that was still not moving just yet.
"i don't think i could just... smack it," jaehyun reasons, "it's disgusting."
hyejin looks around the kitchen, thinking of something. she finds a glass mug, she takes it and hands it over to the boy.
