jaehyun watches himself in the mirror as he buttons the button of his uniform. he brushes a hand through his hair once he was done, making sure it looked decent before he walks out of his room to get breakfast.

"mom?" his mother turns around and smiles at him, "do you think you could give me extra allowance today? i want to get something for a friend."

a friend. that's what he was to her. that's what she was to him.

"a friend? who? what do you want to buy for him?" his mother bombards him with questions. and jaehyun thinks it's funny how his mother immediately assumes that it was for a him.

"just a little snack," jaehyun replies, "you don't know this friend."

technically... it was not a lie. they, as in his mother and hyejin hadn't met each other in years. although, jaehyun has heard stories from his mother how she bumped into hyejin's mother a few weeks ago.

which was bound to happen since they didn't leave far from each other.

"okay," his mother nods, setting down a bowl of rice on the dining table. "by the way, you know we'll be going on a small trip, right? did i tell you that? i don't think i have. do you remember mrs lee? i think her daughter might be in your year. anyway, she invited us to go on a trip during your summer break, so we agreed."

"hyejin?"

his mother looks up at him at the mention of hyejin's name, "right!" she gasps, "her name is hyejin. beautiful young girl. anyway, it's going to be in a weeks' time, so make sure you pack all the things you need. we'll be away for 3 days."

they're going on a trip together? does hyejin know about this? if she does, when did she know? and why did she not mention anything to him?

jaehyun assumes she didn't want to talk about their families in school, he figured he would do the same, then.

this would be great right? jaehyun would be able to see hyejin for 3 days straight, maybe he could win her heart by then.

no! no. god, what was he thinking?

his thoughts has been weird lately. jaehyun has been weird lately. his heart skipped a beat when he sees hyejin, and when they accidentally brushed the back of each other's hands, a jolt of electricity spiked up his arm and into his heart.

"oh god," jaehyun lets out a huff, shaking his head as he rubs his face with the palm of his hand. he could feel his cheeks warming up at the imagination of hyejin. "oh my god," he groans, slapping himself on the cheek.

his mother looks at him weirdly, "son? are you okay?"

jaehyun almost forgot that his mother was just right in the kitchen. his eyes widens, "oh, uh," he nods, "yeah. yeah. i thought i saw a mosquito," he fakes a laugh. jaehyun slides on his white sneakers before bidding goodbye to his mother.

when he reached school, he quickly headed to the convenience store. summer has made jaehyun become thirsty lately, it became a routine for him to go to the convenience store before he head to class. he browse through the drinks, eyeing the different coloured cans in the freezer.

his eyes lands on the last bottle of strawberry milk, his thoughts going back to hyejin. that girl and her obsession with strawberry milk. how could one drink so much milk, but still be short at the same time?

also, why couldn't he stop thinking about her?

jaehyun opens the door to the fridge, reaching out for the pink coloured bottle, but the moment he grasp the bottle, another hand wraps around his huge ones.
