"why are you going out so early?" jaehyun flinches at the sound of his mother's voice. he turns around, to see his mother by the kitchen, staring at him with her eyebrows raised. "are you meeting someone before school?"
"uh..." jaehyun trails off, "yeah," he lies.
well, it wasn't really a lie.
"who?" his mother crosses her arms against her chest. jaehyun doesn't answer, "are you... seeing someone?"
jaehyun's eyes widen, shaking his head, "what? no, no i'm not!"
"then who are you going to see this early?" his mother continues to interrogate him. her eyes starts to soften, "i don't want you to be dating, okay?"
jaehyun scratches the back of his head, unsure of a response.
"you're my precious son, you know that right?" his mother smiles sweetly, "you are way too good for those girls!" jaehyun groans in annoyance, hoping his mother would end the topic, "anyway, how are the singing classes going?"
"it's going fine, mom," jaehyun frowns, "i'm going to go now, okay? i'll be home by 8. the usual."
his mother hums, walking over to her very tall son. she presses both hands against his shoulders, bringing him down to her level so she could press her lips against jaehyun's cheek. jaehyun groans at the wet kiss, pulling away.
jaehyun quickly bids his mother goodbye before leaving the apartment. he hears his mother calling out an 'i love you' and a 'make sure theres' no girls!'.
with a sigh, jaehyun walks out of the apartment building, heading to the bus stop. he prays everything goes according to plan.
when jaehyun spots the familiar bus number, he quickly gets in, tapping his card against the sensor before he takes a seat.
jaehyun drums his fingers against his thigh as he stares out the window. his eyes widen in realisation when he sees the familiar bus stop. he quickly fishes out his phone, pretending to do something.
he feels the bus goes into a halt, jaehyun tries to control his erratic heartbeat. a few moments passed and nothing happened.
"what are you doing here?" he finally hears the voice he was expecting.
he looks up to see hyejin standing next to him, jaehyun beckons her to sit next to him. hyejin does, laying her bag on her lap as she turns to look at jaehyun, confused.
"you take bus 78, too?" hyejin asks, "but i've never seen you in this bus before."
"i was meeting a friend around the corner," jaehyun lies.
"oh," hyejin nods, looking away, "okay."
"yeah."
silence engulfed them both, it was a little awkward, but jaehyun felt like he just needed to talk to her.
"have you heard from the companies yet?"
the competition was a week ago, it hadn't been that long, but it was just an excuse for him to talk to her.
"oh, no, not yet," hyejin replies, "it usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks."
"i see," jaehyun nods.
silence again.
jaehyun tries to thinks of a new topic. it had been a while since they were alone together, so things were kind of awkward now.
"so, you and taeyong?"
