the once green leaves were slowly turning orange, cascading down as the strong wind blows until it touches the concrete ground. it was getting colder and colder each day, but it was tolerable, according to hyejin.
their parents had found out about their relationship after a small incident a few days ago, where mrs jeong met hyejin in her house. she must've told hyejin's parents because the moment she came home that night, she was immediately bombarded with questions.
luckily for her, her parents wasn't angry at all. in fact, they were quite pleased over the growing relationship. hyejin's mother claimed that it would be good for hyejin, seeing how jaehyun was one of the top students in the school. hyejin's father claimed jaehyun to be a "young fine man". and hyejin's brother only commented how a lazy girl could manage to capture jaehyun's hearts when dozens of women liked him.
which resulted in a smack at the back of jihoon's head.
all in all, everything was settled. they no longer had to keep their relationship a secret, and can now leave the house without being so secretive.
"you know," jaehyun speaks up, distracting the girl from her thoughts, "my mom lectured me that night when she saw the both of us together."
"she did? what did she say?"
"she said that i was growing up too fast," laughs jaehyun, "she doesn't want me to date anyone and that i should be a mommy's boy."
hyejin cringes, "but you are a mummy boy though. i remember you always running up to your mom whenever you fall on the sand at the playground."
jaehyun groans, "i'm a big boy, lee."
"sure you are," she chuckles, ruffling the boy's hair in adoration. jaehyun catches her hand with a groan, tucking it in his lap.
"so," jaehyun clears his throat, "your birthday is coming up. is there anything you want?"
right, her birthday was in a week's time. everything had been so hectic lately that it had never cross her mind that she was finally turning 18. normally, hyejin would make her birthdays a big deal, because she likes getting gifts and spend time with her loved ones.
but now that it was so close, it felt different. reality was hitting her— she was getting older, and at one point in life, she will have to find a job and support her parents.
it was stressful just to think about.
hyejin hums, pretending to think. "money would be great," she jokes, to which jaehyun rolls his eyes at her statement.
"i'm serious, lee."
"i am being serious," replies hyejin, "okay, but seriously, i can't think of anything that i want right now."
"will you tell me when you know what you want?" jaehyun lolls his head to face the girl. hyejin nods, but before she could even come up with a response, jihoon was quick to lay himself atop of jaehyun's body. "hey kid," chuckles jaehyun.
"hyung, come play with me," whines jihoon.
hyejin glares at her brother, pulling jaehyun's hands to stop him, "he's hanging out with me, jihoon. go play with your toys."
"you've been hogging, hyung! it's my turn to play with him," complains jihoon. if the little kid wasn't trying to steal hyejin's boyfriend from her right now, she would've broke out laughing at the sight of his missing tooth.
"hey, hey," jaehyun stops the two siblings, "i'll come back after playing with him, okay? it won't take long, i promise."
hyejin grumbles with an annoyed 'fine'. she crosses her arms, glaring at the kid who was poking a tongue out at her. "you won't get any girls with 2 missing front tooth," she snickers, watching as her little brother's grin fall into a frown.
