Cali sat in class staring out the window. She was currently in calculus which she absolutely despised. Cali was not a math person. It didn't matter how many time she went over the formulas and equations nothing ever stuck. Her poor father had spent hours trying to teach her but it was just a waste of time.
Cali was grateful that she was almost done with school. There was only 2 weeks left until graduation. She was counting down the days until she would be moving into her college dorm and finally getting away from her mother. She was sad about leaving her brother and father behind but Cali felt like she was going to go insane if she spent another minute in that house.
"Cal? Are you even listening to me?" Her best friend Jade asked waving her hand in front of Cali's face.
"Huh? Oh no sorry."
Jade rolled her eyes but continued on. "I was asking you if you were still going out with Jason on Friday."
"Oh yeah I guess."
"You don't seem very excited." Jade turned to her frowning friend.
"The only reason he asked me out was so that he could get in my pants."
"Are you going to let him?" questioned Jade with a smirk.
"That's for me to know and you to find out." Cali replied back winking as she collected her things and made her way out of the classroom.
"Oh you know I can't wait for the details." Jade said raising her eyebrows.
Both girls burst into laughter as they exited the school building. Jade practically choked when she noticed who was leaning against a car couple feet away from them.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Cali asked confused as she noticed her friend's weird behavior.
"Hottie alert! Hottie alert!" Jade practically yelled.
Cali rolled her eyes when she finally caught sight of who her friend was talking about. Jade knew about her best friend's crush on her father's longtime friend. She herself even had a crush on the man. How could anyone not?
"I still can't believe you haven't done anything about that." Jade said titling her head towards Shane.
"Well one it's illegal and two it would be weird."
"It won't be illegal in a couple of days." Jade winked.
"I'm almost one thousand percent sure if I were to try anything on him he'd push me away. There's no way he feels the same way about me."
"You never know." was Jade's reply before she kissed her friend's cheek and walked off to her car.
Cali sighed as she made her way towards Shane. She could see some of the girls in her grade eyeing him and she didn't blame them. He looked absolutely delicious in his uniform.
"What are you doing here Shane?"
"Wow Cal. No hi how are you?" Shane asked sarcastically getting no response from the teenager. "Your dad asked me to pick you up. He's got some paperwork that he's got to get done and your moms shopping with some friends so that leaves me."
The brunette huffed walking to the passenger door. They didn't speak the whole car ride but it was comfortable silence. Both of them just simply enjoying being near the other.
Shane pulled up in front of the Grimes house and waited for the girl beside him to exit the car but she didn't.
"Everything alright?" He asked nervously.
"Yeah just enjoying my last moments of peace. I'm sure as soon as I get in there a big argument about something stupid is going to start." She responded motioning to her mother's car that was in the driveway.
So much for her being too busy shopping to come and get me. Cali thought rolling her eyes.
Shane sighed. He knew how much her and Lori argued and he hated it. In his personal opinion Lori was a little too strict with the girl. She expected Cali to be perfect every second of the day which was ridiculous.
"You know you can always talk to me or if you just need somewhere quiet to escape to my place is always open."
Cali could feel her cheeks heat up. She was sure they were bright red. Cali cleared her throat and turned to him with a warm smile. "Thanks Shane! That means a lot."
He nodded. A blush of his own covered his cheeks although the brunette didn't seem to notice it. "No problem Cal. I'll see you later yeah?"
"Yeah." She smiled and exited the car.
Shane waited until she was safely inside the house before driving away. He couldn't wipe the smile off of his face. He could only hope that she would take him up on his offer.
