A bright light streams in from an open window, bringing in with it a warm breeze. The brunette laying in bed crinkles her nose at the light shining on her face. Opening her eyes she instantly regrets it, not prepared for how bright it was going to be. She brings a hand up to rub her eyes before finally getting used to the light.
Cali glances around the room she is currently in realizing that it's her old bedroom. Getting up from her cozy bed she stops in front of her full length mirror. She smiled taking in all of the photographs she had taped to it. There were dozens of pictures of her with her dad, Carl, and Jade. They all looked so happy and free.
Building the courage to finally look at herself Cali was shocked to see that she looked the exact same as she had before everything happened. Her skin was clean, her hair looked like it had been freshly curled, and she had a new pink dress on. It was like nothing had ever happened.
The teen didn't know what to think as she stood there staring at herself in awe.
Did she dream the whole thing?
She couldn't have. She wasn't that creative.
Cali's thoughts were cut off by the sound of footsteps coming towards her bedroom. She quickly turned surveying her room for a weapon. Cali wasn't sure what the hell was going on but she wasn't going to take any chances. The first thing she could think to grab as her bedroom door slowly opened was the zebra print bedside lamp that she'd had since she was in middle school. She raised the lamp ready to strike as the door fully opened revealing someone she never thought she'd see again.

"Whoa killer relax, it's just me." The blonde smiled brightly entering the room and plopping down on the unmade bed.
Cali stood in shock with the lamp still raised in her hands. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. "Jade?"
"In the flesh." The girl joked.
"How? What's going on?" Cali asked slowly lowering and placing the lamp back down. "This is so confusing."
"Well considering you're here with me, I'm going to guess that you died." Jade shrugged playing with a strand of her blonde hair. "Which totally sucks but hey at least we're together again!"
It was then that Cali remembered everything that happened with Sophia. Her heart broke knowing that she had failed the girl and her family. She wished things could have been different but it was too late now. She was dead.
"What is this place?" The brunette wondered looking around. It looked exactly like her home but it was impossible.
"Your house." Jade replied sarcastically before patting the bed next to her for her friend to sit down. "I guess this is the afterlife or something I don't really know."
"How long have you been here?"
"I don't know." She shrugged. "Time moves differently, it's only felt like a few hours but I know it's been longer."
"Are we the only ones here?" Cali was so confused. She couldn't believe this was the afterlife. She had never given much thought to what it would be like but she wouldn't have guessed it was like this.
"Right now yes but sometimes there's others." Jade answered with a smile. "It's actually pretty cool. I literally walked right into Walmart and took whatever I wanted and nothing happened."
"So we're just free to do whatever?"
"Basically. I spend most of my time day drinking by the pool or binging the vampire diaries. It's awesome."
Cali laughed shaking her head at her friend. Jade hadn't changed at all, she was still full of energy and she could care less what anyone else thought. She had missed her so much.
"I'm so sorry Jade." The brunette sighed looking over at her best friend.
"For what?" She questioned cluelessly.
"I killed you."
"Oh please!" Jade waved her off with a giggle. "I literally tried to eat you. I think that gave you all the right to protect yourself."
"I missed you so fucking much." Cali laughed wiping away a stray tear as Jade pulled the Grimes girl into a tight hug.
"I missed you too." The two held onto each other for a few minutes before Jade pulled away with a mischievous grin. "Now let's go get a drink and you can tell me all about how you finally banged Officer Walsh."
Cali blushed letting her friend pull her up and out of her bedroom. She hadn't felt so happy since before the world ended. Cali was sad that she had left behind the rest of her family and Shane but she knew she'd see them again when it was their time.
For now she was going to enjoy every minute she had to catch up with Jade. She knew there would never be a dull moment with the blonde and that's what she needed after months of darkness.
Cali Grimes was finally at peace.
