The brunette girl wandered through the woods breathing in the fresh air. She listened to the sounds of birds chirping and the small rustling sounds coming from the rabbits running away from her.
Cali felt great being able to get away from the busy camp. She knew she shouldn't have been out there alone after promising Shane she'd only go with him. But as soon as the man went for a water run, Cali quietly slipped away. She brought a small knife with her not being allowed to carry a gun because of the group's rules.
The girl found a nice spot under a large tree where she decided to stop and take a rest. Cali sat back against the tree looking up at the blue sky smiling to herself. It was so peaceful out in the woods.
She softly closed her eyes and pictured all of the happy memories she had with her dad and Jade before the apocalypse.
Unknown to the brunette she must have fallen asleep sometime during her reminiscing because the next thing she remembered was being awoken to something pulling on her leg.
Cali's eyes widened at the sight of the partially decomposed woman hanging off of her leg.
"Fuck!" The girl screeched kicking the woman in the head with her opposite foot. As soon as the dead woman had released Cali's leg she pushed herself off of the ground.
The Grimes girl reached into her pocket and pulled out her small pocket knife. The dead woman continued to crawl and reach towards Cali who noticed that the woman's legs were missing. It looked like both of her legs had been cut off or eaten off. Cali had to guess that it was the second option as gross as it was.
A low growl was heard just before the sharp blade of Cali's knife pierced the woman's skull. Cali let out a sigh of relief now that the woman was finally dead.
Looking closer at the woman's body, Cali couldn't help but feel guilty. She wondered what had happened to this woman and what her life was possibly like. She knew it was no use wondering but the dead were people once too.
Cali slowly leaned down reaching for her knife to pull it out of the woman's head. Of course with Cali's luck the knife decided to get stuck. No matter how hard the teen tugged on the weapon it would not budge.
"You have got to be kidding me." Cali mumbled to herself not noticing the figure walking up behind her.
All of the girls focus was on her knife until she felt a cold hand grip onto her arm. Cali immediately spun around with wide eyes coming face to face with a another dead person.
This time it was a man who's guts were hanging out of a gaping hole in his stomach. The man's teeth were chomping trying to get a bite of Cali's flesh as she tried to push him away.
Cali thought it was finally her time to join her dad and best friend. She closed her eyes not wanting the last thing she saw to be the corpse's face as it sank it's disgusting teeth into her.
She for sure thought she was a goner until she felt the dead man's grip loosening. Cali opened her eyes at the same time as she heard a thump coming from the ground a few feet away from her.
Looking down to her side she saw that the man now had a knife sticking out of his head. Cali was thankful to whatever powers that had just spared her life. As much as she wanted to be with her dad and Jade again she knew she couldn't abandon Carl and even her mother.
"Cali..." Shane spoke earning the girl's attention.
The Grimes girl reluctantly moved her gaze toward his voice. She was thankful Shane saved her but she wished it could have been someone like Dale. She wanted someone who wouldn't freak out like Shane was going to.
She could just tell by the look on the man's face that he was furious.
Cali was fucked.
