"Any good books?" Lori questioned entering the Rec Room after her and Rick's shower.

Carol sent her friend a nod with a dazed smile as she looked at the shelves. "Enough to keep us busy for years."

The Grimes woman chuckled watching as Carol swiped a book from the shelf.

"All right. Come on, kids, it's bedtime."

"Baby, go say your prayers. I'm gonna browse a bit." Lori said, shaking her head when she saw Carl roll his eyes. Everyday he was becoming more and more like his sister.

"This is the first night we might actually get some real sleep." Carol cheered leading the kids back to their rooms.

Lori began to look through the selection of books, hoping to find something interesting, when she was startled by the door slamming.

"Jesus, you scared me!" The woman exclaimed realizing it was Shane who had entered the room.

"I'm gonna tell you a few things and you're gonna listen to me." Shane rushed out getting in Lori's face.

Between the time that Cali and Shane had finished their shower and now the man had gotten into the C.D.C.'s liquor supply.

He was feeling like he was on top of the world now that Cali was speaking to him again. Shane wanted to celebrate with the love of his life, so the two got throughly drunk which led to Cali becoming emotional.

The teen began to rant to Shane about how mad she was with both him and her mother. Cali told Shane that he needed to man up and tell her dad that they were together. She also said that her mom needed to mind her own business and let the couple tell Rick when they were ready.

Shane being Shane obviously got mad that Cali was upset because of Lori, completely ignoring the fact that he also played a role in upsetting her.

He decided that he was going to confront Lori.

"Now is not the time." Lori hissed moving towards the door. She could tell by the way that he was slightly off balance as he stormed towards her that he was drunk.

"Come on. When is it ever the time? How can you treat me like this?" Shane scoffed.

"You're kidding, right?"

"No." He shook his head glaring at her.

"Not only did you tell me my husband was dead, but you were also sleeping with my teenage daughter!" The Grimes woman snapped.

"I didn't lie to you, all right? I wouldn't do that, especially not to Cal." Shane sighed looking slightly guilty. "Do you know what it was like there? Things were falling apart. They were slaughtering people in the hallways. It was a massacre. There were walkers everywhere."

"So you left him?"

"Everybody else ran. There were no doctors there. It was just me. He was hooked up to machines and I did not know what to do. I even took my ear and I put it on his chest and I listened for a heartbeat and I did not hear one." Tears were beginning to form in his eyes as he recounted the details of that day. "And I-I-I-I... I don't know why. Maybe it was gunfire. I don't know what it was, but there was no way he could've survived that."

"He did." Lori stated.

"Yeah, but then I had y'all to think about, didn't I?" Shane shot back. "I had Cali, you, and Carl, that I needed to think about. I had to get you guys safe to Atlanta. That's what I had to do."

"Just stop!" She shouted pushing him away from her but Shane wouldn't back down. He stepped even closer to Lori, trapping her between his frame and the wall. "If you thought for one second that he was still alive, would you have come?"

After not receiving an answer he sighed. "I knew neither you or Cali would have left him so I had to make a decision. I couldn't risk her life Lor. I made a choice. I saved her life and you and your little boy's. That's what I did."

"Okay." She nodded meekly just wanting to get away from him.

"And I need you to understand that I tried to stay away from her. I really did. But I love her..."

"No no no." Lori shook her head repeatedly not being able to fathom how he could look at her daughter that way. He practically helped raise her.

"We're going to be together. I'm not going to let you or Rick or anyone else take her away from me."

"She's a child!"

"She's not! She's an adult and it doesn't even matter anymore. The world has changed." Shane continued. "We're in love. She loves me just as much as I love her."

"She doesn't know anything about love! You're just manipulating her!"

"I'm not! You'll see that one day..." Shane nodded mumbling to himself. "But until then you're going to keep your mouth shut about us until we decide to tell everyone."

"You don't get to tell me what I can and can't do. She's my daughter and I'm trying to protect her!"

"Fine...tell Rick and ruin her relationship with him." He said after a moment of silence. "But who do you think she'll hate for ruining their relationship, because it certainly won't be me."

With those final words, Shane left Lori standing against the wall with tears streaming down her cheeks.

She knew he was right. If Lori would cause Rick to get mad at Cali, her daughter would hate her more than she already does.
