The group was gathered around watching a video of a person turning into a walker. Jenner was basically crushing everyone's hope of the world getting back to normal as he explained his findings.
It broke Cali listening to him explain that whatever sickness is turning people invades the brain effectively erasing everything about that person, just leaving a shell driven by the hunger for living things. She didn't want to believe that this is what happened to Jade.
"Somebody must know something." Andrea spoke up also refusing to believe what he was saying. "Somebody somewhere."
"There are others, right? Other facilities?" Carol nodded hopefully looking at Jenner.
"There may be some." The man shrugged with a distant look in his eyes as he stared at the screen still playing the video of the test subject.
"But you don't know?" Cali scoffed. "How can you not know?"
"Everything went down. Communications, directives... all of it." He sighed. "I've been in the dark for almost a month."
"So it's not just here. There's nothing left anywhere?" Andrea mumbled sinking down onto one. of the computer chairs. "That's what you're really saying, right?"
The group received no response from Jenner who stared sadly at the floor.
Cali exhaled sharply pulling Carl tightly into her arms, who'd previously been leaning against her.
"Jesus." Glenn shook his head not believing what he was hearing.
"Man, I'm gonna get shit-faced drunk again." Daryl announced leaving the room.
"Dr. Jenner, I know this has been taxing for you and I hate to ask one more question, but..." Dale trailed off glancing towards the wall. "That clock... It's counting down. What happens at zero?"
"The basement generators... they run out of fuel."
"And then?" Rick questioned dreading the answer. Jenner refused to answer the question choosing to ignore everyone and leave the room. "Vi, what happens when the power runs out?"
" When the power runs out, facility-wide decontamination will occur." The robotic voice responded.
"Decontamination... What does that mean?" Glenn wondered looking towards the other group members.
"Whatever it is it can't be good." Cali mumbled.
"Look, everyone just head back to their rooms while I go talk to Jenner." Rick announced. The group very reluctantly listened to the Grimes man. Cali though decided to stay behind along with her father and Shane.
"I don't like the way Jenner clammed up. The way he just wandered off like that." Shane ranted to his best friend.
"You think somethings seriously wrong with him?" Cali asked bringing the mens attention ti her.
"No. He's probably just lonely and a little skeptical of new people after being alone for so long." The Grimes man replied not wanting to freak his daughter out.
"Seriously, man, is he nuts, medicated, what?" Shane continued to fire questions at Rick who rolled his eyes and began walking towards the exit.
"Where are you going?"
"To look for the generators."
"I thought you were going to talk to Jenner?" Cali was confused as her and Shane allowed after her father.
"He's not going to be much help. I just told everyone that so they wouldn't freak out." Rick sighed before opening a random door. "In here."
Cali stayed by the door per the request of the two men as they left to check out the room. "Find anything?" She called out.
Before either man could answer Cali, the lights went out for a moment before a faint yellow light came on barely lighting up the room. They all heard the distinct robotic voice of Vi cutting through the quiet room. "Emergency lighting on."
"What the hell is this?" Shane hissed coming out of the dark and grabbing Cali's arm. The teen instantly sank into his touch getting more and more freaked out by the second. She knew it wasn't good if the lights went out, that meant that everything else was out of power too.
"Hey, you guys kill the lights?" Rick asked emerging from the other side of the room. It was probably good that it wasn't very bright in the room or Rick may have noticed the couple's intertwined fingers.
"Nah, it just went out." Shane shook his head.
"Fuck." Rick cursed, shocking his daughter who'd never heard her father use that word before.
