Lori returned back to the main part of camp after helping Amy calm down. She was just as worried as the girl was. If the group didn't come back then they'd lose half of the camp's protection.
To calm herself down she decided to do something normal which was give her children haircuts. Cali of course refused but she sat near her mother while she cut Carl's hair.
The boy wanted the haircut as much as his sister but he wasn't as easily able to deny it as the teen was.
"Baby, the more you fidget, the longer it takes." The woman sighed repositioning her sons head. "So don't, okay?"
"I'm trying."
"Well, try harder."
"If you think this is bad, wait till you start shaving." Shane teased walking up to the family. "That day comes, you'll be wishing for one of your mama's haircuts."
"I'll believe that when I see it." Carl rolled his eyes.
"I'll tell you what... you just get through this with some manly dignity and tomorrow I'll teach you something special." Shane chuckled kneeling down in front of the boy. "I will teach you to catch frogs."
"I've caught a frog before."
"I said frogs... plural." The man replied. "And it is an art, my friend. It is not to be taken lightly. There are ways and means. Few people know about it. I'm willing to share my secrets."
Carl looks his mom for a second opinion but Lori shakes her head with a smile. "Oh, I'm a girl. You talk to him."
"It's a one-time offer, bud... not to be repeated." The man said looking between Carl and Lori.
Cali who was sitting next to her brother silently reading a book scowled at the conversation going on in front of her. She hated when Shane tried to act like a father figure to Carl. She knew he meant well but it rubbed her the wrong way.
"Why do we need frogs, plural?" Carl questioned looking at the man intently.
"You ever eat frog legs?"
"Eww!" The boy gags pretending to throw up.
"No, yum!" Shane laughs shaking his head. "Back me up Cal. Don't you remember when your dad and I took you to catch frogs?"
Upon hearing her name fall from his lips that she'd been kissing not even a few hours ago, Cali looked up catching the dazzling smile he was sending her way.
