The disappearance of Cali and Sophia was the beginning of the end for Shane Walsh.
Since the moment Cali vanished Shane had turned into a completely different person.
He was even more short tempered than usual. He wanted everyone to do things his way because in his mind he was the only one capable of protecting the group. Sine the moment that Rick arrived people had begun to die left and right. Shane had led the group for months without a single casualty. Rick shouldn't be the one in charge, and he was getting really sick of following Rick's orders.
So it wasn't a surprise to anyone that had been around Shane for the past couple of days that his erratic behavior led to him opening the doors to the Greene family's locked barn.
Shane wasn't as bothered by the fact that there were walkers in the barn as much as he was bothered by Rick ordering him to leave the barn alone. He opened the door with the sole mission to piss Rick off and show the group that he was willing to step up and protect them while Rick was to busy kissing Hershel's ass to let them stay.
The only way things were going to get done on the farm was by force and Shane was completely willing to take the place over if he had to.
It was safe to say he felt powerful as he stood in front of the barn firing shot after shot into walkers' brains. He was happy to see that other members of the group had also stepped up tp help protect the group. Maybe now they'd realize things needed to change.
But his happiness only lasted so long because the next walker stumbling out of the barn was familiar.
You could have heard a pin drop as the group stared at a pale Cali stumbling out of the open doors.
All it took was for Carl to call out her name before everything went to hell.
Lori grasped onto her wailing son as she stared horrified at the zombie version of her daughter. The two may not have always gotten along but Cali was still her child who she loved. It pained her to see her once strong daughter in this way.
Rick had dropped to his knees the second he recognized that it was Cali. All he could do was shake his head and mumble no over and over again in complete disbelief. This was all his fault.
This was all Rick's fault was the thought that replayed over and over again in Shane's mind as he stared at the love of his life. She was gone and there was nothing he could do to change that.
But he could punish the one who killed her.
Everyone gasped in shock at his actions. They thought Rick and Shane were best friends, they were confused at the man's sudden change. No one could have seen Shane's next moves coming except maybe Dale and Daryl. The latter of which was the one to spring into action the second Shane raised his gun to Rick.
Daryl whispered a quick sorry sending an arrow through the teenager's head before turning his weapon directly onto Shane.
"Oh my god!" Lori cried overwhelmed with the fact that Daryl had just shot Cali and now Shane was trying to kill her husband. "Shane stop!"
