"Sure this is the spot?" Shane questioned. The men of the group excluding Dale and an injured T-Dog were standing at the stream where Rick left Cali and Sophia.
"I left her right here. I drew the walkers way off in that direction up the creek." Rick explains pointing in the direction of where he led the walkers.
"Without a paddle seems where we've landed." Shane mumbles to himself. He was trying to stay calm but inside he was fuming wanting to tell Rick off for leaving Cali alone.
"They were gone by the time I got back here." The Grimes man sighed running a hand through his curls. "I figured they just ran back to the group. I told Cali to go that way and keep the sun on her left shoulder. She knew where she was going."
Daryl followed the instructions Rick had told the girls looking for any tracks. "Hey, short round, why don't you step off to one side? You're mucking up the trail." He mumbled to Glenn.
"Assuming she knows her left from her right." Shane huffed not intentionally meaning to insult Cali but he was overwhelmed with the whole situation.
"Shane, she understood me fine. You know Cali."
"Yeah I do." He nodded. "I know she was probably worried about you going off alone while also keeping Sophia safe by herself. She had a close call with two walkers. Her mind was probably all over the place. Got to wonder how much of what you said stuck."
"Got clear prints right here." Daryl calls out from a few feet away stopping an argument that was surely about to begin. "She did like you said, headed back to the highway."
"They couldn't have gone far." Rick sighed.
"Hey, we gonna find them." Daryl said as he walked past Rick following the tracks. "They were doing just fine till right here. All they had to do was keep going. It looks like Cali veered off that way and Sophia went another."
"Why would they do that?" Glenn wondered.
"Maybe she saw something that spooked her, made her run off." Daryl shrugged.
"Guys look." Shane called out pointing towards a walker on the ground a few feet away. "Cali must have killed it."
"But why wouldn't they continue on the same path? Why go a completely different direction?" Glenn asked grimacing at the dead walker.
"Sophia is just a kid, maybe she got scared of the walker and took off. Cali probably went after her once she realized she was gone." Shane sighed wishing Cali would have just came straight back to the group instead of following Sophia.
"So what do we do? All of us press on?" Glenn asked. He was just as worried about Cali as everyone else. She was the only person close in age to him and the two had become good friends.
"No, better if you and Shane get back up to the highway." Rick shook his head. "People are gonna start panicking. Let them know we're on their trail doing everything we can. But most of all, keep everybody calm."
"I'll keep 'em occupied." The Walsh man assured Rick. He shook his head trying to stop the negative thoughts of what could possibly have happened to Cali as he and Glenn headed back to the group.
Shane knew Cali was strong but she put others above herself which scared him.
