Cali woke up feeling amazing. Today was her 18th birthday. She was finally an adult. It was also a plus that the night before she learned the man of her dreams liked her back. She couldn't have been happier. Nothing was going to ruin her day.

She had gotten dressed in a hurry. The sooner she got to school sooner the day would be over. Jade had managed to get tickets to go see their favorite band that night. As soon as school was over the two were going to Jade's house to get ready.

As Cali made her way downstairs she could hear her parents fighting. Great! she thought.

"Sometimes I wonder if you even care about us at all." Lori seethed.

Sighing Cali walked into the kitchen making herself known. Both Rick and Lori turned to their daughter plastering on fake smiles.

"Happy Birthday!" Rick said coming over to kiss her forehead and hand her a card.

"Thanks daddy." Cali replied hugging him.

"I made some bacon and eggs for you." Lori quickly made a plate up.

"Oh thanks mom. I was going to hurry out and get breakfast with Jade but I guess she can wait."

Lori smiled. She was surprised that her daughter didn't just blow her off.

There was the sound of a car horn before the front door could be heard opening and closing. Shane casually strolled in like he owned the place.

"Hey there's the birthday girl." He smirked ruffling Cali's hair before handing her a card and a small gift box.

Cali blushed but was thankful that her father spoke before she had the chance to.

"We got to get going. I'll see y'all later." Rick awkwardly kissed Lori's cheek before moving towards his daughter. "Happy Birthday baby. Have fun at your concert tonight."

After the two officers left breakfast was very quiet. Cali quickly ate her food before rushing out the door. She desperately wanted the day to be over.

While Cali was counting down the minutes at school her father and his best friend were sitting in their police car talking.

"What's the difference between men and women?" asked Rick

"Is this a joke?" Shane laughed taking a bite out of his cheesesteak.

"No, serious."

"I never met a woman who knew how to turn off a light. They're born thinking in a switch, it only goes one way. On. They're struck blind the second they leave a room. I mean every woman, I ever let have a key... I swear to God. Come home, house all lit up, and my job, apparently because... because my chromosomes happen to be different cause I then gotta walk through that house, turn off every single light this chick left on."
