"I'm not getting anything." Carl groaned from his spot at the edge of the water. The boy had refused to get wet so he chose to stay next to his sister who was currently perched on a rock tanning.
"Little suckers, they know something's up." Shane said seriously. The Walsh man unlike the two Grimes children was fully submerged in the water. "That's what's going on. Just going to have to do this the old-fashioned way."
"I thought you were going to show me your new technique?" Cali spoke up.
"And I thought you were actually going to try to catch something." The man shot back. "Ain't no way you'll be winning that bet if you stay sitting there working on your tan."
"What bet?" Carl asked looking at the two adults. "Do we get a prize?"
Cali couldn't help but laugh at her brother's innocence and the uncomfortable look on Shane's face. It was quite obvious he had no idea what to tell the child so he decided to change the subject.
"All right, little man, look. You are the... you are the key in all this, okay?" Shane spoke quietly as if the frogs could hear his voice and get scared. They definitely weren't being scared off by the fact that he had been flopping around in the water for the past five minutes. "All I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go after one of them, all right, scare the rest of them off. They're all gonna scatter. I'm gonna drive 'em your way, okay?"
"All right." Carl nodded getting his net ready.
"What you need to do is you need to round up every bad boy you see, all right? Are you with me?"
"Yeah."
"Hells yeah." Shane shouted gaining the attention of the women doing laundry. "Give me your mean face."
"Yes sir." Carl replied trying to do his best mean face.
"Are you ready?" Shane laughed at Carl's face thinking he looked just like his sister when she was angry. "Here we go, boy. Here we go." He yelled splashing around in the water. "All right, they're coming your way. Go on, get 'em, get 'em."
"You look ridiculous!" Cali exclaimed giggling at how crazy Shane looked in the water flailing around.
"They're coming your way, come on. Catch them frogs. Catch them frogs." He continued chanting ignoring the girl. "They're coming, little man! Get 'em! Get that net in there and get 'em!"
"I suck at this!" Carl huffed flinging the empty net onto the ground.
"It's alright buddy." Cali reassured him getting up from the rock. "Watch me try. I guarantee you'll be better than me."
