A week had gone by. A week of Rick being in a coma. A week without knowing if he is ever going to wake up. It had been the hardest week of Cali's life and it wasn't going to get any better.

Cali had tried to keep her mind occupied. She kept herself busy with school during the day and then at night she'd visit Rick in the hospital. She'd tell him all about her day and do her homework by his bedside.

Her mother Lori rarely visited Rick. She said it was too hard to see him like that. She also wouldn't let Carl spend too long at the hospital. So Cali usually sat with Rick by herself.

Sometimes Shane would join her. He'd sit next to her and rub her back or hold her close while she cried. It killed Shane seeing his best friend like that but it especially hurt him to see Cali so broken.

Many had noticed the change in the girl. Her once fierce personality was gone. She was like a shell of a person. She didn't even have the energy to fight with Lori when she insisted she go spend time with Jade on Tuesday night instead of going to the hospital.

Cali was walking down the street towards Jade's house. Jade had left school early that day to go to a doctors appointment. She hadn't been feeling well the last couple of days. Lori suggested that Cali should go check on her and spend some time with her. Lori said it wasn't healthy how much time she spent at the hospital.

As Cali walked up the steps of Jade's front porch she noticed some of the girls neighbors packing their cars with what looked like blankets and boxes of canned food. She was a little confused but didn't think anything of it.

Cali knocked on the door but got no reply. She noticed that Jade's car was in the driveway so she had to be home. Cali attempted to call Jade but again received no answer. She finally tried opening the door and discovered that it was unlocked.

"Jade? You home?" Cali called as she walked into the dimly lit home.

Cali could hear what seemed to be groaning coming from the kitchen. She quickly made her way towards the sound thinking that Jade might be hurt. When she turned the corner she was met with the disgusting sight of her best friend bent over eating her mother's insides. Cali's hand instantly flew to her mouth as tears began to pool in her eyes.

"Jade?" She said in almost a whisper gaining the attention of her deceased best friend.

Jade stumbled up and made her way towards Cali. She reached out growling trying to sink her teeth into Cali's flesh. Cali screamed pushing Jade away from her but Jade had already managed to grip Cali's arm.

Cali tried with all of her strength to get out of Jade's grasp but it was no use. Looking around frantically she noticed a kitchen knife on the ground next to Jade's mother's lifeless body.

Cali grabbed the knife and held it towards her best friend. She didn't want to hurt Jade but she knew that this wasn't Jade anymore. There was no life in her eyes, her face was covered in blood, and she was growling like a wild animal.

She thrust the knife into the blonde girls stomach but was shocked when nothing happened. Cali stabbed Jade a couple more times in the stomach and chest but was met with the same results.

"Jade please stop!" Cali cried as she pushed her friend's chomping teeth away from herself.

Cali screamed as she stuck the blade into her best friends head. Jade's grip on Cali's arm loosened as her body fell to the ground.

The brunette stood frozen. She couldn't believe she had just killed her best friend. "It wasn't her. It wasn't her." She repeatedly whispered to herself as she stared at the body.

"Oh god!" She exclaimed as she hunched over puking up her lunch. Cali dropped down next to her best friend's lifeless body.

"I'm so sorry!" She sobbed not noticing the once still body of Jade's mother beginning to stir.

"Cali!" She heard a familiar voice scream.
