"You're leaving?" Cali exclaims looking at her father.
"Cal..." Rick sighed not knowing what to say to her. He promised that he wouldn't leave her again and that's exactly what he's doing.
"Carl go play with Sophia." The teen said putting her brother on the ground.
"But..."
"Now Carl!" She hissed looking down at him. Carl mumbled something under his breath as he stomped away.
"Sweetheart, I have to do this."
"You said you wouldn't leave!" Cali yelled as tears formed in her eyes.
Hearing Cali's distraught voice, Shane immediately made his way over to her. He didn't like the idea of Rick leaving to go save Merle of all people.
As much as Shane wished Rick hadn't of come back it didn't mean he wasn't happy about his friend being alive. He just wished Rick could have picked another time to come back from the dead or he could be alive somewhere far away from Cali.
"So that's it, huh?" The Walsh man scoffed moving to stand next to his girl. "You're just gonna walk off? Just to hell with everybody else?"
"I'm not saying to hell with anybody..." Rick sighed. He couldn't deal with Lori and Cali guilt tripping him into staying. The last thing Rick needed was Shane doing the same.
"That's sure as hell what it seems like!" Cali snapped glaring at her dad. "Did you even think about how this would affect me or Carl before you decided to take off again?"
"Of course I did Cal."
"Well, look, I... I don't understand, okay, Rick? So could you just throw me a bone here, man?" Shane questioned trying to diffuse the tension between the father and daughter. "Could you just tell me why? Why would you risk your life for a douche bag like Merle Dixon?"
"Hey, choose your words more carefully!" Daryl cut in from his spot nearby where he was sharpening his knife.
"Your brother is a sexist, homophobic, racist, douche bag who did nothing but make everyone around camp feel uncomfortable." The teenager hissed turning her attention to the scowling redneck.
"The guy wouldn't give you a glass of water if you were dying of thirst." Shane added agreeing with everything the girl said.
"What he would or wouldn't do doesn't interest me." Rick huffed annoyed with everyone questioning his decision. "I can't let a man die of thirst and exposure. We left him like an animal caught in a trap. That's no way for anything to die, let alone a human being."
"So you and Daryl, that's your big plan?" Lori suddenly cut in, exiting the RV where she'd be listening to the trio's conversation.
"Well..." Rick trailed off glancing over at Glenn who was standing with Dale and T-Dog who were pretending to be working on the RV but were secretly eavesdropping on Rick, Cali, and Shane's conversation.
"Oh, come on." Glenn groaned noticing everyone staring at him.
"You know the way. You've been there before..." The Grimes man spoke walking closer to Glenn. "In and out, no problem. You said so yourself."
"It's not fair to ask him that." Cali mumbled mot wanting Glenn to go as much as she didn't want Rick to go.
"I know that, but I'd feel a lot better with him along." Rick sighed looking at his daughter before turning to Lori. "I know she would too."
"That's just great. Now you're gonna risk three men, huh?" Shane rolled his eyes still not understanding why Rick was so ready to put his life in danger for a scumbag. If he was in Rick's position he probably would have just killed Merle then and there. He wouldn't have even bothered handcuffing him to the roof.
"Four." T-Dog spoke up.
"My day just gets better and better, don't it?" Daryl scoffed throwing the arrow he was sharpening on the ground and walking over to the small group.
"You see anybody else here stepping up to save your brother's cracker ass?"
"Why you?"
"You wouldn't even begin to understand. You don't speak my language." T-Dog replied with a shake of his head.
"That's four." Dale said stating the obvious.
"It's not just four. You're putting every single one of us at risk." Shane frowned looking Rick directly in the eye. "Come on, you saw that Walker. It was here. It was in camp. They're moving out of the cities. They come back, we need every able body we've got. We need 'em here. We need 'em to protect camp."
"It seems to me what you really need most here are more guns." Rick retorted glancing around the camp.
"Right, the guns." Glenn sighed running his hand through his hair.
"Wait. What guns?" The Walsh man asked now interested.
Cali scoffed and walked away from the group. She knew that Shane was going to agree with them going now. The group needed as much protection as they could get. He wasn't going to turn the opportunity of getting more weapons down.
The teenager entered her mother's tent finding Carl laying on their bed reading a comic book. She could tell from the look on his face that he'd heard the group's conversation.
"Hey buddy." She smiled sitting down next to him. Carl looked up at his older sister who reached over and gently wiped away the tears that had fallen onto his cheeks.
"I don't want dad to leave."
"I know buddy, neither do I." Cali sighed pulling the boy into her chest.
