Vivienne couldn't sleep the second night either and the awfully loud noises coming from the bar didn't help.
Vivi lay on the small bed beside Lynn who was sound asleep, staring at the wooden ceiling which looked as though it might fall.
She groaned softly, she was tired but couldn't sleep thanks to the noisy dregs who seemed wide awake and were now chanting something.
Lynn was a heavy sleeper, Vivienne on the other hand wasn't. She closed her eyes, thinking about how in the world would they manage to accomplish the mission kaz had asked them to do. She shook her head, maybe this was just a dream, maybe if she slept and woke up the next day, she would be in her own bed in her room and she would hear her father grumbling like usual, her mum bustling through the kitchen and her little sister singing in her loud chirpy voice. Yes, that's what will happen, She thought to herself.
The cheering of the dregs seemed to grow faint as she started to drift to sleep.
Vivi heard someone singing the first thing in the morning, eyes still closed. She opened her eyes quickly. She wasn't home, Lynn had woken up and was now in front of a rusty mirror looking at her reflection trying to brush out her tangled hair with her own hands. Vivi looked at her own black hair, and quickly tied it up.
"Morning." Vivi yawned as she stretched, her manner cat-like . Then fell back again, staring at Lynn who was inspecting the school uniform they had been wearing since two days now and yesterday's chores had made them even weary looking.
"Morning." Lynn greeted her back, as she turned away from the mirror and sat on the bed, beside Vivi.
"You stink." Lynn scrunched her nose and sniffed herself, "So do I." "Couldn't they shift us to a room with a bathroom, so we can atleast clean ourselves?" Vivi said as she got up from the bed, and looked through the small window of their room. In the lane in front of them, she could see two bulky men smoking their fags, and women scurrying along quickly as the men snickered.
"I wish i could kick their asses." Vivi murmured, and Lynn who had joined her let out a humm of agreement.
"Men continue to disappoint me as days pass by." Lynn said, as she rolled her eyes and then added, "Except fictional ones."
"Who seem to be real." Vivi said looking at the old buildings, and people wearing old and uncomfortable looking clothes.
There was a knock on the door. Lynn looked at Vivi, who stared back. Then sighed and went to open the door. There was the suli girl, with her long braid, wearing her blue shirt with a black small corset and some leather pants, and knives tucked in some sort of a belt. And she seemed to be holding some clothes.
"I am never gonna get used to this." Vivi said out loud, as she gestured Inej inside, slightly bowing to her.
"Good morning, you two." Inej said in her calm silky voice "I bought you some clothes and you can clean yourselves up in the room down to the right of the corridor."
"Oh okay, thankyou." Lynn said, as she picked up the clothes getting excited seeing they were just like inej's just different colors.
"Once, you get ready. Come down at the bar and Matthias will lead you to where you two will get trained." Inej informed them, as she left the room like a wind.
Vivienne and Lynn stepped out of their rooms, both looking cleaner and fresher with Inej smiling beside them. Inej looked at them like how Kaz looked at her when he first gave her the clothes and armour. "So" Vivienne twirled around "Do I look like a badass assasin yet?" "I bet we look so mysterious" said Lynn with a smug look on her face
They both look like idiotic bimbos, thought Kaz.
"Both of you can go to Matthias first, he'll teach you some good fighting" said Jesper, jumping around in a fist fight position Inej muttered at Kaz "Will they be safe?"
Kaz looked at her, and then looked away. He could not bear the burn on his chest, the weak on his knees. Everytime she looked at him, he felt like all those layers and walls he'd built up had been stripped down to nothing, and yet he felt safe.
"I'll make sure they are" he said, looking towards the bright blue sky. "Alright, so, fighting." said Matthias. The three of them were standing in the middle of some barren land. The afternoon sun was blazing. Matthias grumbled something in Fjerdan and then said
"Two weeks. You'll have to learn it all in two weeks. Are you both ready?"
They were the un-readiest they could possibly be as they nodded their heads
"If someone attacks from behind, and tries to grab the weapon on your side, do not turn towards them straightaway. Place your grip on your weapon with your elbow like this" he gestured "now turn sideways, and elbow them hard. Now use the weapon on your other side".
Lynn and Vivi made a poor attempt at doing so, almost making matthias laugh
"If someone comes upfront or tackles you down, protect your face. keep your chin down, roll towards the side they're leaning on, and use the dagger or the gun"
They both nodded as if they understood a single thing
"Tomorrow we'll use Jesper as your attacker, lets see how much you've learnt" uttered Matthias
