Cain rubbed his hands together radiating a hint of warmth in them, as he and Vivienne entered the small area of the grishas of Fjerda.
There was hushed talking, the feeling of captivity and fear clung in the atmosphere. Cain wondered, how awful it must be to get killed and hunted for simply being what one is and a special gift one has. He could precisely feel the stares, on him and Vivienne as they walked in the area.
They were walking their way towards one of the tents, when they came to a halt. Two daggers were pressed suddenly against their backs.
A shu man and an elderly grisha lady were now in front of them as they looked at their faces in resentment. The grisha women spoke to the younger shu man in a language neither of them understood. Vivienne opened her mouth to speak, but clamped it shut when she felt the dagger pierce lightly through her back. Cain yawned from beside her, as she stared at him with wild eyes. Nothing seemed to scare him and he looked bored with this, Vivienne thought, How?
"Listen, we are of no harm." Cain said, as he casually swatted the knife away from the grisha behind him making the grishas around them raise their hands to a stance. Vivienne wanted to slap him.
Vivienne swallowed as she held her hands in the air, as a gust of chilly wind wafted by. A few grishas sent her questioning looks. The elderly grisha who seemed like their commander gestured to the grisha behind her.
The grisha girl that was behind her withdrew the dagger and roughly caught Vivi by her wrist. Cain moved forward to Vivi but was put to a stop by a heartrender grisha. He grunted but nonetheless looked calm as though the heartrender couldn't make his heart explode any second.
Vivienne stayed as still as she could, as the grisha held her hand. She stared at the girl. She was a zemeni, hair braided long and tightly with dark brown eyes. She was pretty, very pretty. She then bit her inner cheek. Murmuring to herself in her thoughts 'not the time to be your fruity self, viv'.
The girl then dropped Vivi's hand , looked at the lady and nodded. The women stared at Vivienne in interest, as she held her hand out once again and at once the other grishas dropped their hands from stance.
"Saints, Now I have muscle cramps." Cain groaned from behind Vivi, as he was now free of the heartrender's clutch and stretched like a cat.
Vivienne really wanted to slap him.The elderly head of the grishas drew closer to Vivienne. She was much shorter than Vivi but still held a sense of superiority as she held out her wrinkled hands.
Vivienne felt herself go numb as the woman grabbed her chin. The lady then looked at her with wide eyes and more curiosity and then started smiling like a grandmother seeing her grandchildren for the first time, a sense of comfort and warmth in her eyes.
Hushed whispers swept through the other grishas as they stared at Vivienne. Cain drew his brows together in confusion, as he watched the old grisha now smiling and patting Vivi's head.
"One of us." The lady rasped out loudly, in an uncomfortable accent, "Greater than us, rarer than us. Even rarer than me I dare say."
Vivienne didn't understand her at all but she also knew in a way this was about what she had done back in the storm to the kraken in the endless ocean they had been lost in a few days back."Obviously, my wife is greatest of them all." Cain said, in a matter of fact way as vivi raised a brow at him, "All hail Vivienne Black."
The lady finally spared a glance at Cain, observed him and then grimaced shaking her head. Vivienne bit down her laugh.
"Hey! What was that to mean?" Cain said defensively, as he huffed like a child. The grishas barely paid him any attention.
"Him?" The lady asked, scrunching her nose at Cain who was now very much pouting, "That's a manchild. A powerful girl look you deserves a better and worthy consort."
"Lady, you don't even know me." Cain shouted at her, the elderly grisha ignored him once again, "And I have a bloody handsome face.""He is not my husband." Vivienne spoke out finally, as she grinned at Cain who was feigning hurt.
"Oh thank goodness!" The lady gasped and Vivienne laughed, the grishas joining her. Somehow, only in a few minutes she felt much more comfortable and belonged here.
"Come along, dear." The woman said as she grabbed her wooden cane and started walking towards the bigger tents. Vivienne nodded, following her as a fuming Cain trailed behind her. Inside the tent were young children. Grisha children. Giggling as they chased each other. Vivi smiled, watching them. The tent was warm and cozy, with fuzzy rugs and carpet on the floor and furnished well.
"Have a seat." The lady said as she motioned them to the armchairs as she sat on a rocking chair, "I am Ruth. A seeker grisha."
"No way." Cain gaped, from beside Vivienne who stared back at her in confusion."You surely have heard of seeker grishas?" Ruth asked, as a a wind blew a tray of tea and placed it on the tea table in front of them. Vivienne blinked in amusement at the tray and then shook her head as response to the old lady.
"A seeker grisha is someone who can see the future. Well not exactly see it entirely but can feel it or rather sense your future, something big that will come your way. There are barely any seeker grisha left in our world, very rare." Cain explained for Vivi as he took a sip of the black tea, Ruth nodded.
"So are like a fortune teller? a tarot card reader? But accurate way more accurate and legit." Vivienne said, and both Ruth and Cain looked at her as though she was talking a different language.
