The cold chilly weather of Fjerda was horrible, but the rum they had kept the crows warm from the inside. The eleven youths were now walking through the almost knee deep snow lane. Lynn's walk was fast paced, the scent of alcohol still lingering on the rest of her friends. They were headed to the motel that Kaz had somehow had located and had rooms for all eleven of them much to their amusement.
Matthias calling it djel's work. Vivienne was feeling giggly and light headed, even though she only had one shot as she clinged to Jesper who was shaking his head and scolding her why she took alcohol if she was so light headed. Cain who had taken the most amount of alcohol simply seemed like his normal self as he was whistling and walking merrily.
"This is it." Kaz announced, as they were now in front of a small ragged cottage, dimly lit with warm lights.
"Finally." Daphne groaned as he jogged to the mahogany entry door, the rest following him. Faint music was playing on a recorder as the entered the motel, Kaz went to the nearby clerk asking for their keys as the rest huffed and sat on the couch near the fireplace in the hall.
"Tell him your names now." Kaz pointed at the clerk, holding his keys by his infamous crow cane.
The crows, proceeding to speak out their names, got a huge room all for themselves, walking in lavishly like rich folks.
"Your name, sir?" the clerk asked Daphne who uncomfortably looked at the floor, fidgeting with his hands.
"My name, um- Daphne." he looked behind him anxiously, seeing Lynn wait impatiently for her turn.
"We will need your full name." This got Daphne even more ill at ease, as he tapped his foot, trying to calm himself down.
"Sir?" The clerk asked him warningly this time.
"Daphne Barlowe!" he blurted, nodding and violently staring at the clerk who gave him
a confused look but let him in.
Lynn gaped at Daphne who casually walked in his room, swinging around the keys.
"Your name, miss?"
"That little-" Lynn cursed under her breath, sighing and regaining her composture.
"Lynndint Black."
"Excuse you!" Cain gasped dramatically, pushing his way through Zeph and Vivi
"Cain Zionite it is then!"
"What the fuck." Zephyr mumbled as Vivienne stared at the three wondering what in the nine realms was wrong with them.
"Well." Vivi spoke aloud, "I am. . ."
Three three looked at her anticipatingly.
"She is my wife." Cain cut her off, putting an arm around her "Vivienne Dansburg."
"Wha-" the clerk glared at the four kids for a long time, before finally giving them their passes, scowling.
"Here" Kaz cleared his throat, as he interrupted the little commotion. Vivienne who was still doopy smacked Cain's hand which was draped on her shoulders making the brunette pout.
"This is yours and Inej's room key." Kaz said as he tossed one of the keys with his gloved hands to Lynn who caught it one shot, proud of herself.
"This is for you two." Kaz announced as he handed another key to Nina and Matthias. Nina wiggled her eyebrows at Matthias who visibly had started to turn pink.
"Reminder that this cottage is made of wood so we can hear shit clearly through the walls. So please, no banging today fellas." Daphne smirked looking at the couple.
"Goodness, yes please don't." Cain grimaced, agreeing with Daphne.
"Oh then we surely will." Nina said happily, as Matthias coughed pretending to be intrigued with the key.
"You do you." Vivienne said giggling and pointing at Nina, as Kaz frowned at her.
"You need to rest and sober up." Jesper said pointedly at her, as he glared at Kaz accusingly.
"What do you mean?" Vivienne said with abrupt volume in her voice, as she stood up straighter and put her hands on her hips as if to make a point, "I am perfectly fine and I fought a monster today and shot fire out from my entire body."
Kaz raised a brow at her and looked at Zephyr for confirmation who nodded hesitantly.
"No!" Vivi came inbetween Zephyr and Kaz, her face flushed "I need them powers back"
"Now you need some rest too." said Zephyr, hesitating for a moment before holding her by her shoulders and leading her inside her room.
Kaz looked at Lynn hoping for an answer but she shrugged at him back. Maybe telling him about what happened right now wouldn't be the best idea, she thought to herself. She loved Kaz, but one could never know whether he would plan to use someone as literal meat shield.
"Come on, Lynn" Inej smiled, holding Lynn by her arm, making her blush hard as Kaz gruffed.
Wylan was already sound asleep when Vivi and Zeph entered the room, Zeph gently laid a blanket on Wylan and tucked him to sleep, making Vivi supress a laugh.
"What's so funny?" he elbowed her, although grinning himself a little.
"Nothing, its just, that was cute" she smiled.
"Mhm." Zephyr stepped in closer, looking right at her eyes.
Vivienne abruptly looked away as Zeph's gaze fell on her soft lips. He reached out his hand, plucking out something from near her mouth, his other hand sturdily holding onto her chin.
Vivienne held in her breath. Their faces were inches apart. She almost leaned in, when Zephyr abruptly backed off
"You had a stray eyelash." he smiled sheepishly, walking out of the room and leaving her standing, a thousand thoughts dwindling inside.
She huffed, sitting on the bed, looking at Wylan, his nose flaring a little with each breath.
"If only was it easy to throw bombs everyone" she uttered, laying down at looking at the ceiling, dreaming, even though she was in one already.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Inej was playing with Lynn's hair, they both were restless and unable to sleep, their lack of alcohol intake not helping.
"You came here to Fjerda before, right?"
"I did, about twice." she said "You both really aren't from here, are you?"
That caught Lynn off guard, she looked at Inej for a minute, trying to decipher if she should say something so beyond belief.
Instead, she changed the topic "How's Daph? He had passed out earlier in the storm, he might catch a cold or something."
Inej raised her brow at her "He's alright, needn't worry much about him."
"Well, I really hope we make this happen y'know? The mission. I don't even know how we ended up here, or that we could probably end up dead and resurrected, I just really want to do this."
"Hmm. What for?" Inej asked, laying on the couch and gesturing Lynn to sit beside.
Lynn thought about it for a motive, then shook her head, frowning.
"We Sulis have a proverb." Inej said, a faint smile on her lips "The heart is an arrow,"
"It demands aim to land true." Lynn completed making Inej smile wide.
A knock was heard at the door. Kaz had walked in their room, he had taken his gloves and coat off, he was in a white shirt and black trousers. Even though Lynn knew about Kaz, it was strange to see him this, almost vulnerable state, it made him look more humane.
"Hi" Lynn waved as Kaz nodded back.
He then looked around the room, his eyes scheming. After giving Lynn a deadly glare for no particular reason and Inej a considerably softer one, he walked out swiftly, closing the door.
"He really just came in to see you didn't he?" Lynn poked Inej who pretended not to hear it.
