Shandian Li woke up in a pasture.  She was a beautiful little filly.  Her mother was part of a wild herd that roamed the land close to the mountains.  She grew into a beautiful mare as the years passed.  In her tenth year, a group of men came and captured many of their herd.  One of them saw her and wanted her for his own herd.  He chased her until his horse was too tired to continue.  The next day he was back again.  For a solid week he chased her.  Finally he trapped her in a small clearing in a canyon.  He roped her and drug her home to his small stud farm.  For months he tried to tame her.  Daily she bucked him off until he finally had enough of it.  He sold her to a horse tamer to try his luck.  The horse tamer was not so nice.  He beat her with a whip every time she bucked him off.  He tied her to a post and left her there with no food or water.  After a week, he saddled her and got on her back.  She tried to buck him off, but she was too weak.  He rode her around the pen until he was satisfied.  He gave her water and some feed.  Every day he did the same thing.  Slowly she gained her strength back.  He came to the pen and saddled her for his ride.  He mounted her as usual but decided it was now or never to try her out.  He opened the gate and slowly went through it.  They rode down the road.  He stopped her several times but she was nervous.  He turned her to return to the farm but that was when all hell broke loose.  A deer shot out of the woods right in front of them.  She stopped in her tracks but when a pack of dogs came out of the woods in hot pursuit of the deer, she reared up and took off as fast as lightning.  She was all over the road and he couldn't stop her.  She ran under a low lying limb.  Being caught off guard, he was wiped off of her back.  When he hit the ground, his head hit a rock.  His skull was crushed.  He lay there in the road for the rest of the day.  A man in a wagon picked him up and brought him into town.  He died two days after without speaking a word.  The people of the town knew him.  He had only two workers and no wife or family.  His farm was sold.  Shandian Li had run back to the farm.  She ran into the pen in terror.  One of the workers closed the gate and left her there with the saddle on her.  Word came of his death and that the farm was being sold.  The stable owner in town bought all of the horses.  He tied them together to take them to town.  He sold all of them but kept fifteen, including Li Li.  She was older now but still beautiful.  Everyone that bought her brought her back.  The owner tied her feet together and left her in her stall.  She had given up all hope until the day the handsome warrior came to the stable to get a horse.  He walked through looking at the condition of the horses there and became very angry.  He bought all of them, including her.  He made several stops in town before going out of town toward the very farm she had been bought from.  He talked to all of them and stabled them until he made sure their pasture was safe.  He fed them and gave them clean water and a blanket to keep them warm.  He took tender care of all of them.  Being properly tended to made them all feel better and they started to recover.  He combed out their hair and groomed them.  He cleaned their hooves and made sure they were sound.  He left after a week to go into town for more supplies and to find workers for the farm.  Li Li relaxed.  For once in her life, she felt like she would be ok.  She slept better than she had in a long time.
Bai Baohu Zhe woke up in the local flower house.  He jumped up from the bed in confusion for a moment but calmed himself.  He looked in a mirror and saw himself.  Or at least he thought it was himself.  His hair was black, but still in the warrior's ponytail.  He got his clothes and armor.  He didn't know why he was allowed to know who he was.  Is this a trial?  He dressed and went downstairs.  He paid the madam and left.  He went to the stable there to get himself a horse.  He really didn't want to walk everywhere he went.  He looked over the horses there and became angry.  "How dare you try to sell me an animal you have obviously been starving!  These horses are in very poor condition!"  He walked through the stable and saw the beautiful white horse tied up in the stall where she couldn't move.  He turned to the man fingering one of his swords.  "Name a decent price for all of them.  Hurry for my hand grows tired and my blade is itchy for blood."  He named a low price, took the money and left Baohu to get the horses together.  He came into Li Li's stall and patted her neck softly.  "There now.  Let me cut these ropes off so you can be free to move.  I've come to help you, not to harm you."  He cut her free and he heard her take a deep breath.  He made ropes halters for all of them and tied them together in a string.  He walked through town with them walking beside him.  He went to the local constable office to find out if there was any property for sale.  He found out about the horse farm and bought it.  He picked the most hardy of his horses to ride and left town with them.  He traveled for half a day to find it.  He looked it over and decided it had potential.  He stabled the horses and talked to them as he fed them and made sure they were fed.  "Stay in the barn for now until I can make sure there are no predators around to bother you.  I'll be back in the morning."  Very early he came and fed them, brought them fresh water and cleaned their stalls.  He saddled the horse he had ridden before and headed back to town after a week.  He needed supplies.  He bought supplies and told the man to bring them to the farm.  He went back to talk to the constable about hiring people to work there.  When he left town, he had two young men, a cook, two maids and a housekeeper.  When they arrived back at the farm.  He told them what he expected.  "I will pay you good wages and treat you fairly.  I only ask that you do your job and your share.  If this farm is to prosper, we must work together to make it so!  If you wish to help, please stay."  They all agreed to stay.  The next morning the cook had a good meal cooked.  They ate at a common table.  He took his men out after breakfast and they repaired the house first.  The three of them worked hard to fix any problems the house had.  Next they worked on the barn and fences.  After a month of hard work, they had everything up and in good working order.
After six months, Baohu decided he needed a good stud horse and a few good mares.  He left instructions for his workers and went to the imperial city to a horse fair there.  He looked over the stock carefully and bought three mares and one stud of exceptional confirmation.  He stayed at an inn close by.  Four men were in the dining area causing the patrons to be very nervous.  Baohu, dressed as a warrior, sat down to eat.  The leader of the men came to his table and sat down.  "Ho, warrior!  I need your services and I'm willing to pay!  Will you take care of this problem?"  Baohu read the man and decided he wanted no part of him.  "I don't associate with scum."  Baohu grabbed the man when he drew a dagger.  He drew his own and held it to his throat.  "I could kill you now.  Leave and don't come here again."  The four men stood as the one wiped his hand across his face.  They left.  He sat down and ate his meal.  He paid and was preparing to leave when he saw four men trying to surround him.  He acted like he didn't know they were there.  Having no magic, he had to rely solely on his sword and martial arts skills.  The first man attacked.  Baohu drew his sword and dispatched him quickly.  The other three decided to attack at once.  People scattered but wanted to watch the warrior get rid of thieves that had terrorized their part of town for some time.  Baohu had a few cuts on his arms, but he managed to kill the thieves one by one.  He battled the last one.  The one who confronted him in the restaurant.  Their battle was intense but slowly Baohu gained the upper hand.  The thief fell back as he sliced him across the chest with both blades.  He looked down, looked at Baohu and fell backwards into the dust.  Baohu wiped his blades on the thief's robe and turned to collect his horses and supplies.  Slowly the people came out to thank him.  He mounted his horse and was making his way out of town when soldiers from the palace surrounded him.  He was taken to the palace complex.  "Am I under arrest?"  "The emperor wishes to see you.  This way."  He was brought into the palace to the throne room.  Having never had to bow to anyone but his Shushu Ye Hua, he found all the bowing and scraping hard to deal with.  He shrugged mentally and knew he had too.  The emperor was announced.  He hit the floor like everyone else.  He was called forward.  "My brave and mighty warrior, it has come to my attention that you single handedly vanquished a group of thieves that had been creating havoc in that part of my city.  I wish to reward you."  Baohu bowed.  He had to think quick just what to call him.  "My Emperor, I require no reward.  I only did what was right and proper to rid your city of this scourge."  "You have been sent as an answer to the many prayers offered by our citizens.  They have prayed daily to the great golden fox, the son of the golden dragon, to rid our city of them.  We thank you."  Baohu bowed low again.  "Because you have wished for nothing, I will give you a reward anyway.  Give this man a medium sized chest filled with equal pieces of gold and silver.  Take it as our appreciation."  Baohu bowed low and backed out the door.  He was happy that his humble attitude had brought him this reward.  His own money was running short.  He decided he would pay a visit to that temple before he left town.
He tied his horses outside the complex.  He noticed the many people paying homage to him and his Fuqin.  The mural on the wall showed Mo Yuan, the dragon, training and raising the fox.  It showed their battles and even showed Jinlong crashed to the ground.  It had a scene of the white haired god of war riding a white horse to battle.  He stood there in silence.  It was Shandian Li, his lovely wife.  Backing out to leave before the tears overcame him, he left money and was leaving when one of the monks bowed before him.  "You have come, great war god.  You have come and our city is saved."   Baohu thought carefully before he spoke.  He didn't want to break any celestial rules.  Besides, he had no power, only his skills as a warrior.  He turned to the monk.  "What makes you think that I am the war god?"  "Your aura is upon you and your hair is turning white.  I presume you have been tested yourself.  Have you gone through a trial, exalted one?  Is your Fuqin really the great golden dragon of heaven?"  "Yes, he is my Fuqin.  I suppose you could call this a trial, although I woke up here with all of my mind, just not my powers.  I beat those thieves using only my fighting skills taught to me by my Fuqin."  "A word of wisdom to you, oh exalted one.  You have been sent to recover your lost wife.  She is waiting for you."  "My wife is dead.  She died because I broke her heart."  Baohu turned to leave but once more the monk stopped him.  "Please exalted one, a word has been given.  She is here waiting for you.  Did your Huli ever grieve?  She is not dead, but going through a trial that Fate brought upon her.  If she is to be your partner, she has to be your equal.  She is a warrior, too.  She also gave you twin sons.  Look for her because both of you are counting on it."  Baohu nodded and decided this monk knew a lot to be human.  "Who are you?  I perceive that you are not a mere mortal.  You know much of my world."  "Great war god, I am a lowly mortal that been blessed this day by your presence.  I hope you remember me when I come to the nine heavens.  I wish to join your army."  "I have no army, only my disciples.  If you do indeed come to the immortal realm, seek me on Kunlun Mountain.  You shall become my twentieth disciple.  Give me your hand."  The monk didn't hesitate and placed his hand in Baohu's.  Baohu waved his hand and his Kunlun emblem appeared on top of the monk's hand.  "I have marked you today so your path will be clear once you come to my realm.  Take care and tend to those who come here seeking true help from me.  I will help those who are oppressed and rescue those in need.  Yes, I am the God of War, but I am also compassionate and caring.  I war against evil.  I strive to aid the good and punish those who are wicked.  Now I must go.  I know where my wife is."  The monk bowed low as Baohu turned and left.  He walked into the temple and sat down hard.  His fellow monks saw the glow on him and the mark of the war god on his hand.  From that moment on, he was sought after for knowledge and wisdom to young warriors who sought to follow in the right path.
Baohu traveled as fast as he safely could to get back to his estate.  When he arrived, the whole place was in an uproar.  The white mare had run away.  The next day, a beautiful young woman appeared at their gates, sick, hungry and seeking help.  They took her in.  Not wanting to be too excited, Baohu left his horses with a worker and ran to his house.  He was almost afraid to enter because he knew who he would see there.  The housekeeper told him that she kept calling for someone.  "Master, I think she is calling for the God of War.  Do you know who that is?  Master, what happened to your hair?  It's white."  Knowing he was no longer hidden, he called his staff together.  "I have called you here to reveal a truth to you.  I am Bai Baohu Zhe, son of the great golden dragon of heaven and God of War."  They all looked at him for a split second and fell down into a full kowtow.  "Arise, we have much to discuss.  When I leave here, this estate will be left to all of you to prosper from it.  I am here because you see, the young lady that came here is my wife.  She is on a trial.  I don't know what part I'm supposed to play in it.  I can't return to the heavens yet until I know what I must do.  Can you all continue to do your work here?  Can you please just help me get her through this?  Please don't be bowing and scraping to me.  I will remember you all when I return to the heavens.  Now let's just live here like we did before and help her get through this.  I promise you all, you will be rewarded."  He walked to the room where his Li Li was resting.  He sat beside the bed and took her hand into his.  It was the first time in quite a long while that he held her hand in his.  Tears flowed down his face as he ran his knuckles down her cheek.  She was sick and it showed.  He called the housekeeper to him.  He had her make a good vegetable soup and some green tea for her.  The housekeeper was bringing the tray when Li Li opened her eyes.  She looked around to see where she was and then she looked straight at Baohu.  Her eyes filled with tears and she turned on her side away from him.  He spoke softly to her and offered her the soup.  "Here, eat some of this soup.  You need it to recover your strength."  She stared at him.  "Why have you come?  Why can't you just leave me alone?"  He stared at her for a long moment.  "Well, this is my farm.  I woke up here in the town.  Fate sent me here.  Fuqin and I were facing off in a friendly competition when the baby girls got between us and I struck them.  I fainted and woke up here.  I bought you, or I assume it was you, from the stable in town.  In fact I bought all the horses there because the stable owner was mistreating them.  Especially you.  I freed you from the shackles he had on you.  I brought you here to recover.  I just made a trip to the imperial city to buy a stud horse.  I paid a visit to the temple there that is one of mine.  A very kind and enlightened monk there told me my purpose here.  I wronged you.  It is on my shoulders and my heart to try to make amends.  If you don't wish it, then I will return to Kunlun.  Much has happened.  I myself was sent on a trial to suffer because I made you suffer.  Dearest, I love you!  I wronged you.  Demon Queen Shao Wan nearly ruined me and through me my Fuqin.  Fuqin has not been the same since.  He took one step toward his calamity because of me.  If you wish it, I will leave and never come around you again.  Our boys are with me.  Fuqin named them Bai Fengbao and Bai WuYun.  If you wish to see them, they are at Kunlun.  Decide now what you would have me do."  She lay there staring at him in silence.  "I wish to come home."  Her voice was soft and her hand touched his.  "I wish to come home."  "Then let me take care of the people here and we shall return.  I want them taken care of."  He stood and walked out of her room into the main part of the house.  Once again he called everyone who worked for him to come for a meeting.  He brought out the chest that the emperor had given him.  "I have told you who I am, in this chest is gold and silver given to me by the emperor.  I'm going to divide it between all of you.  I will prepare a document that gives each one of you an equal share of this farm.  If you don't want a share and wish to leave, I will give you the monetary value of your share.  I would only ask that you spend your money wisely.  I'm returning home with my wife.  Tell me what you need and I will do it for you."  The housekeeper stepped up.  "Master, we appreciate all you have done by giving work to us.  You saved us all from a bad end.  We will make this farm prosper.  If you ever come back, hopefully our descendants will be here.  We hope that Fate has been kind to you as he has to us."  They all bowed.  He opened the chest and waved his hand over it.  Each one of them had an equal amount of gold and silver appear before them.  Shandian Li got out of bed.  She looked at herself and frowned.  She clothed herself in her Kunlun armor that Mo Yuan had made for her.  Ma Feng appeared in her hand.  She smiled.  Her energy was high now.  Did she somehow ascend?  She squared her shoulders and walked into the common room.  The mortals there bowed down to her.  Baohu grinned.  "Ho my Xiao Zhanshi!  You have returned to me!!"  He took her into his arms and kissed her right in front of them.  In a swirl of green energy, Bai Baohu Zhe returned to Kunlun with his mate and only love by his side.  When their feet touched down, the ascension energy hit her.  Baohu picked her up and carried her to their room.  Mo Yuan, seeing him with her in his arms, came behind him and followed them to Baohu's room.  "My Xiao Jin Huli you found her!!  This is wonderful!  She is a high goddess now!  She is your equal in every way!"  Mo Yuan hugged Baohu tightly.  "My son, I came be at peace now!  Fate brought her back because Shao Wan was not meant to return.  Do better this time or I will help her kick your golden butt!"
