No Way Out

My left cheek rests against the cold tiles, my body limp and still, as I stare too long at the wall in front of me.

There's no window in sight, not even a broken exhaust fan, only the huge ass door looms in the corner.

There's no way I can leave this place. No chance I can reach that door.

But I can't breathe. It's hot, and then it's cold. And I'm struggling to breathe.

I started heaving long and deep breaths until something inside my chest spiked. I strained to breathe even more as my chest physically hurts, it feels as if my heart is being pierced through. Or a rib is being pressed against my lungs. Excruciatingly. Over and over and over again.

I feel my hand clutching my chest, clawing at my throat as if begging for air, while my other hand tries to reach for the door.

But it's too damn far. And my strength is not enough. Nothing is ever enough, it's futile.

A tear escaped from my right eye, only to roll down to the other.

"You should have gone for it and left before," someone muttered, their voice sounding like a distant buzz. "It's too late to try and leave now. You're neck deep into this hellhole and there's no way out. You know it. Fucking recognize it, so you can breathe and stop being a pathetic excuse of a devil."
