Cacophony dawn chorus echoed across the broad forest. The birds sang in synchrony as the sun rose to awaken. Seeping and snaking smoothly past all its obstacles, the river cascaded twigs that twirled on the murmuring surface of the water. They were little messengers from the mountain trees where they had originally come from. Hitting the edge of the riverbank they managed to bump into the pair of legs that laid in the water. Pebbles scraped the river bed, breaking off the dirt and grub making it float down along the peaceful current.
Nature voices of the chirping birds, croaking frogs, airy movements of the leaves and soft flowing of river waves perked his ears, catching his attention.
Jeno squinted his eyes as a golden ray of sunshine infiltrated his eyelids covering the darkness into brightness. Half his body was over the riverbank while his legs were soaking up in the flowing water.
Faint chirps squeaked in his right ear, unwillingly he forced his eyes to open to be greeted by a morning bird perched up next to his face. Extremely close, he was worried that it might poke out his eyeball.
It was tiny. Smaller than his palm but alarmed by the close proximity with the cute creature he backed away with a scream naturally leaving his lips. Instantly, out of terror, the little birdie scurried off flying to who knows where.
A sharp ray of sunlight directed right into his eyes making the boy shut them tight reflexively. Small black dots invading his eyesight when fluttering them back open. It took a minute to adjust back to the view in front. A grunt left his lips as he aided himself to sit up straight.
Jeno glanced at his legs to see the material of his joggers all wet and drenched. Slowly he removed his bottom half away from the ripples so they could dry. A block of discomfort tingled the back of his head. Hating the numbing feeling, Jeno rubbed his temples in a circular motion in hopes to reduce the unwanted pain. His knee still ached due to the fall from the tree, but he was confusedas to why he had a few scratches on him and a banging headache.
Then it hit him. The unusual event that he saw, the strange phenomenon.
The portal
His mind emptied, not comprehending if everything he saw was real or not. Cautiously, he examined his surroundings to find himself near the tree he climbed. A groan left his lips as he realised that he must've slept in the forest.
In pain, he laid back onto the soft dirt staring into the clear broad skies. There's no point in hurrying back. He stayed out the whole night so he chose to just take his own time. He knows that Mark may be vexed but what's the point on dwelling on it. He'll just deal with him later.
That can't have been a dream? It felt too real - he thought as his mind drifted back to the unforeseen event yet again.
Shaking his head to set his thoughts into place. The rising sun cast a rosy hue across the morning sky. Golden fingers of sunlight lit up the scenery. The just-risen sun shone softly on the heightened trees, illuminating with it a flurry of early-morning sounds.
